Connector 1 of SFC cart - what use?

    What's the use for the connector labeled as 1 on the SFC carts? The Turtle group doc labels it as "Super FX"...any more info would be appreciated!

    If by connector you mean pin 1, it's the master clock.

    Yep. But the problem is that it's on the extension pads, which not all carts do have. So i presume the Master Clock is needed in carts only for add-on chips, am i right?

    I'm pretty sure that was used for clocking the Starfox superfx chips that had no onboard oscillator. The later Superfx-based carts had their own oscillator on the cart itself.

    So, assuming the clock pin is actually linked to the 21.4mhz quartz crystal on the main snes mobo, you COULD overclock Starfox cartridges, if you were so inclined ;)

    Yeah...so i could beat the game in 30 minutes rather than 50 :lol:

    StarFox runs pretty annoying when at 21mhz opposed to 10.5mhz. It looks smooth but it just goes too damn fast to play normally.

    This is absolutely correct. It's used to synch the original SuperFX chip with the console.

    There is no syncing, just clocking.
