OK, so here I am... rediscovering myself and getting bored of my Dream Para Para setup and wonder if theres anyway for more songs and a better controller besides hacking DPP or going out and buying myself an arcade machine, then it hits me... the Ps2 happens to have this game, and controllers as well. So I ask you all, what would be the best way to go about aquiring this? I do not own a PS2, nor do I know much about running import on it at all. All I know is you need a modchip for whatever model you have. Now theres this new slim ps2, I hear you can swap discs with it, but I have no idea, I also hear it has some compatability problems. I also hear Para Para has trouble booting with certain mod chips. Would I be better off buying a Japanese PS2 or modding an american one? Chances are Para Para will be the only game ever to touch the system, though my friend said if I could find some sort of way to boot the game on his ps2, without oppening the case, He would be willing to let me play it at his house. I've heard methods from disc swapping, USB mod chips, HD Loader, to solder mod chips. I also have another question on the USB mod chips, if I were to use one, after the game has booted, may I remove it? I would like ot be able to do 2 players in PPP and since the controller requires the USB port... heh, you get the idea. Anyway, thanks in advance guys. I want to try to do this as cheaply as possible ^^:

Not that i actually know anything on the subject, but i guess you could try a USB hub, which i expect would do the job transparently.

When I get off of work sure, but for now I can only be on AIM, it's the only client I can get for Mac OS 9.

Steadster: That might work, though like I said, I too, know next to nothing on the subject.

Einbebop, it was the first sentence @_@

  10. Ok, there's several ways of modding a PS2 to play imports. As far as the original, larger PS2 goes, you can wire in a mod-chip, although DMS are releasing a solderless mod soon. http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms4ezi/site.pl?page=home

Good luck with wiring in a mod on an original v1 - 11 PS2 though, it's damn near impossible: buy a premod. Or you can get these no-solder chips that plug onto the MoBo. However, as with the boot-disks you have to yank open the DVD drive with this special tool to swap disks. That's never good for the DVD drive. You can however buy flip-lid replacement cases. But all this adds expense.

As for PStwo, you can get a mod-chip. It's much easier to mod than an original, however you also want to get one of these small PCBs that stop the laser burning out.

So, um, yeah. Either get a premodded PS2, mod a PStwo yourself or just buy a Japanese PStwo.

Do those USB mod chips really exist? And do they work? I've never ever seen one.

They work but they're 2000 mod technology, remember you still have to swap, solder 1 wire and sometimes have to patch games.

Get the most commom PS2, so you can use a HDD to store games and game saves. Plus the lenses are way better on the bigger PS2. Try getting a 30001R or a 39000

As for modchips go for the Matrix Infinity or the DMS4 EZI LITE. The first needs more work to install, but it's perfect. The DMS4 is new and does not require a single solder.

Anyway, the Matrix Infinity is upgradeable and it turns itselves off after the media is recognized. Best investiment i did on my PS2.

As long as I don't need the HD to play Para I don't think I'll need it, I don't plan on getting any other games.

I actually heard different when I was posting for info on anothert board as well, The slim case had better lenses and a top flip lid, but would overheat or something? The slim one also is supposed to support DVD+Rs and CD-RS or something like that
Are there any mod chip compatability or incompatability charts out there?

The slim one doesn't overheat. I have one, and no problems whatsoever. :smt023

Best way to go - screw the modchip, and buy a TEST PS2 from assembler. :smt023 Will play your ahem, backups fine as well as imports.

That's what I did, but I don't have any imports to test it on :smt043 .

I tried making a backup of Suikoden, but it wouldn't work. I doubt I patched the image correctly. Oh well, I'll just play the original on my PSOne.
