Really? But these models don't have a problem with their trays seizing up as easily as the A-chassis units, do they? When I got my first SCPH-10000, I was surprised about how slow and weak its tray ejection behaviour was, compared to the SCPH-39006 that I have. It, like the other two A-chassis units that I got later on, came as a boxed set that was super clean.
One that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Sega (Mega) CD. Not sure about the first model, but at least with the second model, there's a little board in there that looks like some kind of mod, but from what I understand, it was put in there to fix a problem with how the thing was wired and/or programmed. I don't know if it's really a bug, though. Someone more knowledgeable can spread more light on it (or if you're interested, I'm sure it'll be easy to find the information outside of this thread).
I really can't see its point except allowing bootlegs... Which I doubt is a feature SEGA planned... (though it proved to allow the creation of a nice scene and the DC to be of interest to a lot of people even 10+ years after its demise) IIRC the Utopia crew used a devkit and an official SDK to develop the boot disc, but I don't know if the necessary infos to put together the exploit was contained in the SDK or if they figured out the reset trick completely on their own. The rotating deer is based on the teapot demo on the sdk btw, see there: http://hydras-world.com/gaming/dreamcast/building-the-developer-examples/
I think if they hadn't obtained those materials the system might have stayed secure or atleast stayed secure longer than it did. But having that vulnerability to begin with was just a serious failure of whoever was in charge of security.
I meant they still did not solve this problem completely even on 39 and 50 models. It still could get stuck. Do not remember tray speed.
I bought my console (SCPH-39008 and SCPH-50000) when they were new (in boxes and documents). On SCPH-50000 tray moves significantly faster and never get stuck. On SCPH-39008 - slower, can sometimes get stuck. So from SCPH-39008 this problem is indeed present.
