Following my NeoGeo research, I discovered that there are 7 different AES MoBo versions. This surprised me, as consoles go the AES has a relatively small production run. This got me thinking about MoBo revisions for all consoles. Xbox: 1.0 - 1.6 PlayStation - About 7 or 8? PSone - No idea, have they revised this yet? PS2 - There's about 9, yes? GameCube - No idea. Other than the new version with no Digital out. But what about things like Gameboys/Gears, PCEngines, Megadrives, etc? Did they bother revising these? Are there any different versions of, say, Duo-R mobo? They changed the insides of the Gamegear, iirc....
PS2 has the most out of any of those consoles. There are now 10 versions I believe, not counting the other regional differences. Also PSX (not PSOne) has quite a few... I think 7. Saturn has around 5 I believe counting model 2 etc.
For PSX, theres 1001, 3xxx (dont know the number), 5001, 7001, 7501, 9001. Then came PSOne. First was 101, then 102 where chips were rearranged to thwart modchip installers. For PS2 there 10001, 30001, 37001, 39001, then 5000 series and up. I think they're at 57000 now. As for XBOX, there are actually 3 if you count the DVD Drive changes, the mobo hasn't changed for the most part, only the optical. The GC I think actually went thru one revision. The chips are closer together near the center of the heatsink mainly to keep it cooler but I think the model number hasn't changed at all.
Well I go by what the modchip sites tell me :smt040 . I like my 3PSX systems I have. One is a portable, the other is for home use and I plan on modding to play imports and some backups and the last one is there just incase the other 2 crap out completely because you know Sony and their shoddy products.
Xbox has several M/B revisions and the 1.0 and latest one looks quite different as I opened them both recently. Probably the notable difference is the four sockets in front were originally mounted on a separate board and piggy backed to the M/B but on latest revision incorporated into the M/B itself. Don't think there has been change of DVD drive as M$ still uses Thompson, Phillips and Samsung drives in what looks like random order... My Halo LE has amsung drive whereas mate's Halo LE bought from same place few days apart has Phillips drive. And for GC if you count new version coming out in Japan minus digital AV port that will be Rev. 2 then... cheers
The first batch of PSXs had composite AV ports and iirc, Svideo. These were removed on all later models. As for Xbox, there are 7: 1.0 - 1.6. With a random mix of DVD drive and either a 8/10gb hdd. If anyone is interested in knowing what they have without removing the lid - http://www.xbox-linux.org/docs/versionsdb.html
Yeah, it's got passive water-based heat dissipation, which is quite ineffective. The later revisions were better designed.
