Been busting my tail on a consolized CPS2 for the last couple months: Progress Log: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/ud-cps2-fully-consolized-capcom-play-system-2.146685/ Still a fair amount of work before I'm set up for mass production, but it's coming along nicely! -ud
When you can do it as good as MKL come back. http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?103646-Consolized-CPS2&p=1283230&viewfull=1#post1283230
Apparently you didn't read the part of that srk thread where I brought up MKL's system while discussing consolized CPS2 with a fellow neo-geo.com forum member. So, objectively, what would you say is lacking in my work? -ud
I didn't read the SRK thread at all. Your work is not lacking, but the way MKL removed the JAMMA edge and added the DB-15's is beautiful. The secret fan on/off switch is awesome too. I was the first owner of that very unit, and I've always regretted selling it on. I've seen other attempts at such a unit, but nothing has surpassed it IMO.
It's hardly terrible in comparison to that other one. It looks pretty darn similar in a lot of ways. But I digress, THIS IS AWESOME. If I had money I would really invest in something like this. It seems like a great idea.
Nice work! I was just reading your thread over on the Shmups forum. I'd certainly be interested in a USB-DB15 adapter. I have a Hori V3-SA for the PS3 that I'd love to use on the Neo Geo too, 'cos it's a great joystick. :033:
I think three Atomiswave's, two PGM's, a PGM 2, a Hyper 64, a Crystal System, multiple MVS boards (one with a coin hopper, specifically for V-Liner and Jockey Grand Prix) allows me to voice my opinion. Thanks very much.
In that case, please do not post anything anyone anywhere has previously done better. Seems fair to me.
The idea of using USB pads is SEXY ... But besides that, consolizing an arcade board is something I (this is a personal opinion, don't take as insult or discouragement, please) find atrocious. Put that *awesome* work into making an SUPERGUN which can be used on ALL BOARDs you own. It's more economical, logical and ecological. (al x 3 :lol CPS2 boards are such SEXY devices ... They work fine and look nice on their original form. And the only mod they really need is changing the fan from 12v to 5V which quietens it up while keep the airflow enough to prevent it from baking inside the plastic casing. Again, don't take this as a discouragement. If you like the idea, go for it (Even don't liking the idea much, I am aware that a lot of people like the consolized boards anyway) ...
Any pics? Not trying to add fuel to the fire here, just curious as to how different people consolize different boards etc.
Thanks, l_oliveira I hear you on the supergun thing. The only reason I began this project was because of the tournament fighting game scene. Games like Super Turbo and Vampire Saviour (CPS2 games) still have a strong following and I don't want to see these skipped over by tournament organizers for the simple fact that dealing with arcade gear is more cumbersome than home consoles. When this is complete, they should have no excuse  EDIT: "When you can do it as good as MKL come back." -ud
SSF2T and Vampire Savior are both on Saturn and excellent. Why not use them? I agree that a Supergun is the way to go. Now a consolized MVS makes some sense though. They can turn out really nice.
It's a Vanguard. Picked that beaut up at a Goodwill for $5 'cause they didn't have the combo. Quick google search on cracking wheel codes got it open in a couple minutes  Two reasons: 1.) As "arcade perfect" as those ports may be, you will always have purists who prefer the actual arcade hardware. 2.) Being as this project is specifically for the tournament scene, realistically you will not have people walking around with Saturn sticks anymore. People will be walking around with USB/PS3/360 sticks, hence my time in developing a USB interface. This is a headache free, tournament ready CPS2. Zero special hardware required. -ud
