Hi Have a early demo of a high profile game I was fortunate enough to get, however: I try to Update my time through the net ad it crashed my entire system....... Any ideas
I've never seen any Game or Demo have a time limit but I do know that it is a possibility. Browse to the information on the Demo and see what the valid start and end times are. If the time it outside of those limits then you have to adjust the clock manually. It may also be worth a shot to rebuild your database in the recovery menu.
If it's forcing you to have a date/time inside the valid range and we're now outside it, AND have the date/time updated via the internet, it's possible that it's just done through standard NTP and you could intercept the request then feed your own date/time. This would be relatively easy compared to reverse engineering whatever they're using if it's not NTP.
The PS3 will: Check if it has the most recent firmware installed. (If this fails it will ask you to update and will not adjust the clock) Authenticate with DNAS. (This is probably to keep people from setting their own fake NTP with wrong date/time using DNS redirection) And finally adjust the date/time using SONY's NTP. Remember that they run a business and now they host a ton of rental contents...
