I'm having trouble with the controller port 1 on my Sega Saturn model 1. Controller port 1 won't recognize a game pad. I tried different pads and it won't work. Controller port 2 works fine though. Other than that the Sega Saturn works fine.
What would I need to do to fix controller port 1?

Well after looking at the controller port there were some pins that were bent down for some reason. I pushed them back up with a small needle. Which would have probably worked. Now I think the power supply went too crap. There is a hum coming from it. Won't power on now. It did flicker the power on and off. The green led was flashing and then went dead. So the power supply went bad. Bad capacitor? I think it is the one near where the power cable plugs into the socket

    Have you checked the resistor?

What you mean to say is that you killed the power supply, it didn't go bad.

You probably bent the pins in a way that it started to touch something else and caused a short. So pretty much what APE said...

Sure it's splitting hairs but the mentality is "my actions didn't result in this happening" and that isn't one that should be of someone trying to fix anything electronic.

If you're lucky the power supply might work after a rest. If you're not lucky you'll need a new one and/or repairs to the one you fried. I probably have a spare set of ports for that model somewhere.

So is there anyway to fix the short. Your right about not knowing about electronics. I wish I wouldn't have tried to fix it now. :( Would removing the joystick port fix the short or did i screw up the power supply completely? :( Try too fix something and screw it up! Just checked removing the joystick port and the ticking sound was gone. Power supply might be screwed up though. I'll have too check it later.

Power supply might be bad. Could having the joystick port not connected cause the Sega Saturn not to turn?
