Hey guys, Anyone alwayed wanted to import N64 games from Japan, but thought you also had to buy the console to? Well with 10min and the right tools convert your N64 system to play games from Japan! Frist off the tools 1. - 4.5mm (millimeter) Gamebit & Screwdriver or Grip 2. - Phillipshead Screwdriver (You won't have a problem finding a Phillipshead, but getting your hands on a 4.5mm Gamebit can be tricky. You can either go to a major tool store , try Ebay or something like that.) Ok, now have all your tools yet? Good, lets get started! 1. Open the memory hatch at the top of the console and take out the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak (If you dont have one, skip this step!) 2. Take the Gamebit and start removing all the screws on the underside of the Console, there are a total of six screws 3. Take off the N64's two feet. They should come right off, but you may have to use the help of your screwdriver or a small knife, this is only if your system has been sitting in mud for awhile. 4. Time pop that sucker off, gaze in that 64-bit power 5. Now look under the top of the case you just removed, see that gray pice of plastic? yup you know it get your Phillipshead screwdriver and unscrew the two small screws holding it in place. 6. From here there are two things you can do, Close that puppy up and run to Ebay and start betting, granted doing this alot of dust will collect in the exposed area unless you have a game in there most of the time. Or get a small file, not get the gray pice you took out. 7. Look under it with out the pannles see those two squares on the corner? File them off! Those are the suckers preventing those carts from Japan fitting into your Console. 8. Your done!! yup thats it, pice your console back togther and play! No need for any converts or anything like that. Hope you enjoy
well, thanks... very helpful apart from the fact that this is known and well-documented since 9 years.
Unh? I'm confused, i don't see how bidding on ebay will increase the dust in my N64. I just use a gameshark...
I just bought a Dremel tool set at the Radio Shack for console modding and the like. Performing this mod was like peas and carrots, not like the SNES where you had to put such and such in the right place or else the system wouldn't go back together right. How's that for region protection? Tabs... Heh. Nintendo's fortunate that the local hardware stores don't stock 3.8 and 4.5 bits.
I modded mine with an electric drill, a hammer and a wood chisel. I'm gonna be sacrificing a screw driver eventually to open it up and clean up the mod however in the future.
I modded an snes for imports with a lighter and an exacto knife. Worked fine and never had to open it. Did everything through the game slot.
