I'll be getting a copier soon (SF 7) and I was wondering if the power supplies I have now will work. I would like to know before I order so I can order one if need be. I have my SNES hooked up using one of these.

Will the other plug on the cord work for it, and can I use both lines at the same time without risking a fire? Otherwise, I have this.

    Thanks!

300 miliamps is quite too low for the purpose you need it for.

What is that power supply for ?

I'd say anything which can supply more than 500 miliamps (ma) should work for you. I would go for another power supply with the same specs as the one you linked first.

    You'll need more than that.

More than that as more than 300ma or more than 850ma ?

I think 850ma is enough to power up an Floppy drive (it's just for the floppy that copiers fetch external power don't them ?

The only copier I have here is an Super Magic Drive from FFE for the SEGA Mega Drive. It uses their standard floppy/case/cable and that's the only part of my copier which requires external power...

And for that 850ma is enough AFAIK.

Yeh my GD7 uses my megadrive power supply which works fine, though now it's got a USB drive, I could probably use one power connector for both SNES and copier!

I second using a model 1 Sega Genesis power adapter. They are great for copiers like the GDSF7. I've always used that on mine and it works great.

That first picture of the 3 in 1 would be cool if it provided more power. I always thought it'd be nice if you could plug in the system and the copier with 1 power supply but generally you don't see power supply units like that.

I don't think that power adapter is intended to be used on both outputs simultaneously. They're just giving you the choice of either using it on an NTSC NES, NTSC SNES/ SFC or Genesis Mk.1.

Ideally they should've placed a switch somewhere to select between the different connectors, or simply included an adapter plug to fit over the barrel connector.

FYI, the NTSC SNES rating is around 1A to 1.5A, so you would definitely need the Genesis PSU to provide the floppy drive power.

The floppy draws <500mA and it's only active for a short time.

DRAM however draws 300mA-400mA all the time. If you have a copier with discrete logic, they could draw another 300mA.

The actual SNES draws between 300 and 500mA.

All copiers are designed to run off the original Famicom supply, which PCE/MD/SFC all happen to use. This is NOT the same as the NTSC NES supply! It is 9Vdc (don't go lower, and not too much higher), center negative, rated for 850mA.

All copiers I have seen so far draw power for it's DRAM/internal logic from the SNES/MD through the cartridge slot. They had external power supplies for their loading mechanism, be it a floppy or a CD-ROM.

Also, I think the PAL NES/SNES do use the same output rating AC power supply as the NTSC NES would.

This is the case for many, but almost all Bung equipment, the Magic Super Griffin and most FC copiers power DRAM off the external supply.

Right, nobody should use NES/SNES supplies; they aren't suitable for copiers as few (if any) provide rectification, and while the NTSC SNES' outputs DC, it has an obscure plug.
