I'm hoping some of you can help me out. I've got an SSD drive from UBC- drive was corrupted, and the IT department in the building couldn't figure it out. I picked it up, and gave it a shot. I managed to pull the data off as a 250GB .dmg file, but now it won't mount properly. Using the command mount -t hfs -r /dev/disk2 ~/temp with disk2 being the image, and temp being a mount point (directory), I get an error- mount_hfs- invalid argument but the drive (disk image) is HFS+ formatted. With my little knowledge, I tried replacing "hfs" with "hfs+" just in case, but that's no good either. So, I tried dd'ing it to an external drive. 3 continuous days later, it copies, and now the damn external is unreadable. No errors in disk util, nothing needing to be fixed. I have yet to try and force a preview mount with diskwarrior- from what I've heard you can use that to recover data. If you know if I'm doing something wrong, do tell me. Suggestions would be great too. At this point I'm at a dead end. Thanks for any help
Not backing up! SSDs are rather unreliable still - I'd never store important data on one without a backup. I'd never store important data on ANY kind of disk without a backup, mind you! I've found it much harder to get data off a corrupted SSD, personally. Not sure you'll be in luck here, TBH.
