There has been much talk as of late about the graphical downgrades with the finalized version Dark Souls II on PS3 and 360 compared to earlier versions of the game shown around E3 2013 and TGS in the fall, and even earlier this year and just prior to release.

some examples (note I tried to avoid stuff that was clearly rendered CG)

The soon-to-be released PC version does not bring back the dynamic lighting (especially in dark corridors) shadows, animation and more complex geometry that was seen through out 2013. It's going to be a great port of the final console versions but can run in 1080p and higher native resolutions, sharper textures, a few additional minor shader effects, better anti aliasing and fidelity options and run at 60fps on even a modest gaming PC. There will of course be community made texture mods & FX and and such, but nothing will bring back the finer geometry detail or the more sophisticated lighting, etc.

Supposedly, the graphically more advanced Dark Souls II that almost all of us have seen by now was running on PS3 last year but I am not sure because FROM developed the game on the PC as the lead platform. a summary of the differences in this post.

So what are the chances that one day, perhaps years from now, one or more beta versions of Dark Souls II with the original graphics will leak and be playable on PC (rather than console) ?

If not, I guess I'll just have to wait a few years for Dark Souls III (or a Demon's Souls II ? ) with PS4 or PC as the lead platform.

Still, it would be a pretty big deal if such a thing happens!

Til then, I'll be patiently waiting...

As far as I'm aware no beta builds of Demons or Dark Souls have ever leaked yet, but there's always hope :)
