Don't ask me. Sony haven't had any down here since the day of release and even then it was hard pressed to actually know if it had been released or not. Pathetic ! They keep them all up in Tokyo because they know that's where the world media will be looking.

Why don't you just wait for the US release? Seriously, it's like two months and you're gonna get raped importing it now. :smt009 :smt009

I'll be getting a PSP Standard pack with a Sony Brand Slip Case and Lumines in about 3 days.

I also have a Sony brand 128MB DUO card...

I might sell this lot off, not sure, as I already have a Value Pack.

Nice to have a backup, it is a Sony product ;)

Yeah its not that bad. Considering the price is being hinted at £180... if it is that price then the import price isnt bad. Also i know people who have paid £400...

FANBOY ALERT! I'm sorry, but this is so easily biased BS that it could almost be proven by mathematical induction :smt042
Of all current-gen systems the PS2 has
    1. the most games released
    2. the most support from (Japanese) 3rd parties
    3. the greatest number of arcade ports, shmups, fighting games
    4. the greatest number of retro compilations
    5. more RPGs than any other system
    6. Plus, nearly all multi-format games

In addition, there were 7300 games released on PSone, again, most support from Capcom, Konami, Square, Namco, you name it. Also, bucketloads of RPGs and arcade conversions.

I'm no particular fan of Sony, but your head has to be seriously stuck up a certain orifice to be claiming stuff like this, unlike you're a VERY rabid Nintendo fanboy.

yes but japanese games does not mean quality, just look at bouncer by square (im not stating either way, although your main defense was japanese developers).

Am I missing something as to why everyone is willing to pay through the nose to import a PSP?

The PSP will be widely released within a matter of a few months, and when that happens, retailers will be competing to offer the lowest possible price, although I don't think you'll see it discounted for a while. On the other hand, you won't be gouged by people playing off desperation either.

All of the early hands-on reviews state the same problems such as dead pixels on screens, dust embedded under the screen cover, and game discs popping out the back hatch under active use. Just like anything that's brand new, doesn't it make sense to wait until all of the kinks are worked out? I think so. I'll bet Sony has everything smoothed out in time for the US release.

Finally, keep in mind that games are region specific for the PSP. Unless you're fluent in Japanese, I'd suggest waiting for your own region's release. Otherwise, not only will you be stuck paying more for imported games, you'll also face a language barrier in what you can play. :angry

Those are just a few cautionary thoughs. Make no mistake about it, the PSP seems to be an incredible little handheld machine, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. However, I'm willing to wait for a well built machine at a reasonable price.

Interesting points, only a few comments:

    1) People don't want to wait another few months for a localized release.

    2) Sony will probably do jack shit about the problems, as people will buy them anyway.

    3) Games aren't region coded, but the (proposed) movies are.

My mistake on that one then. I just read an article in PSM magazine, which I strongly dislike, and it stated that games are actually region coded. Hopefully that's not the case.

Well it's not a 100% certainty, games aren't, but they have the facility to be, so it could be introduced easily later on, but apparently it's down to the developers of the games to introduce it.

I have to agree with LeGiT on this one. The PS1's crap to good ratio is horrendus, as is the PS2's. Japanese hardly equals good either--look at all the dating sims that are a bunch of jpgs with some text.

For every GTA: SA, you have 10 things like a Dogs Life. For every FFX, you have crap like Eternal Fantasia or w/e the hell it's called.

I like Sony just fine, but there's a ton of crap too. In the end, Sony has just as many good games as its competitors, which makes all the difference.

Can anyone (from Japan) tell me something about the availability of the PSP these days? Is it still hard to get?

I'm asking this because I'm very interested in getting a Japanese one because of another possible delay of the PSP release here in Europe. And they're again ripping European buyers off with an expected retail price of 250 euros, approx. 325 US dollars! So it would be cheapier to get one from Japan...
