CPL World Tour – Brasil Stop – Day 1






I arrived at the Sheraton-Rio hotel at 13:00, but at this time the event had already started. Anyway, i had to wait some time to get my Press Pass (they had some problems making it). The wait was worth, since i have acess to any place of the event, and there’s always someone asking “Hey Mr. Rafael do you need anything?â€. LOL. Not to mention the free food.


[font=&quot]Well, after i got my pass i went to check all areas of the event. The first place I visited was the area where the Painkiller tournament was happening, and in the same room the guys from Team Sportscast Network were shoutcasting the games live. It’s a pretty cool sight to see those guys working. They really transmit the excitement of the matches, giving the people that are listening them,anywhere in the world, the idea of how the game is being played.

While i watched some players talking, i got the idea of how big and important is this event. There’s lots of countries being represented, and while Portuguese and English are the most commom languages around, because Brazil p) and USA teams and players, there are lots of players from Canada, Chile, Argentina Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Holand and even a lone Japanese Painkiller player.



Back on the event, i went to visit the Oi (Brazilian GSM Cellphone company) booth that was introducing a Multiplayer RPG game for their cellphones. Had not much really interest on the game really, since the girls on the booth were more interesting. (too bad that when i got my camera on my hands most of them went out for a lunch-break). There were some computers for freeplay too, but since people were using i decided to move on.

Next was the Intel booth with lots of computers and notebooks. Lots of games were avaiable for playing there: Doom 3: Return of the evil, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, Empire Earth 2 and Need for Speed Underground 2. Because of this, lots of some small tournaments were happening, with giveaway stuff being given to the winners. Some of the tournaments were:



-Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (1x1)

-Empire Earth II (1x1)

-Swat4 (4x4)

-Doom 3: Return of the Evil – “King of the Hillâ€

The most interesting though, was “Kick the Pro – FIFA 2005†where anybody could challenge the Fifa 2005 Interactive World Champion, the brazilian Thiago “Zé Colméia†Carrico. When the announcer said you could challenge him, lots of people (including myself) decided to give a try. I lost by 4 x 0 if it’s of yours interest, but this is not a problem really since i play Winning Eleven better .

After spending some time at the Intel Booth i decided to see what the Nvidia booth got to offer. I was a little dissapointed to see how bad it was really. The place was really boring, although the monitors on their computers were amazing, there was just only one game avaiable for play, Painkiller, and not much going on. Got some folders about the latest GeForce cards and left.

A major dissapointing to me was the BYOC area, almost totally empty. More people probably arrived by the night, to enjoy the whole midnight playing games, so i expect to be a bit more crowded tomorrow.

So with nothing to do on BYOC, i went to the Spectator Area where the CS tournament was taking place. The place is simply great with 10 plasma TVs showing what each player is doing in the game. This place is where i stayed the most of my time on Day 1, watching great matches like United 5 (USA) 16 x 12 Advanced (BRA), Fastlane (SWE) 16 x 11 Adrena (BRA), and g3nerationX (BRA) 16 x 11 SK Gaming (DEN)

So, this is pretty much all i can say of Day 1, and expect more coverage of the event tomorrow and on sunday. For full results of the CS and Painkiller tournaments go:
