So I was fiddling on the program of Vampire Hunter rev 950302 and figured out how to enable the built in debugging facility (will help me with other games too later on...) so instead of adding an debugger on the game (as Raz did on his Phoenix ROMs) I'm using Capcom's debugger instead ... Here's how the game look like when the debugging is enabled: It presents itself as a debug enabled version (regular version just reboots when a crash occurs) Oops, I think the 68000 stepped on a banana peel here ... (It froze) Press strong kick button and this is what you see on the screen: Ah and if you're wondering about that address error, it was induced by me as an "decryption error" and now I need to figure out where I laid out wrongly decrypted data...
So that's what this means. Have you discovered how to enable location test or show versions? I've had this board for a while:
STOP VERSION / LOCA TEST VERSION / SHOW VERSION are simply flags that can be set or disabled on the rom, like a dipswitch but instead of being read from a hardware register (like a real dipswitch would) it's read from a byte on the ROM. For the Vampire Hunter game in particular, the addresses are 0x000002BC-2C3. (region and type) I suspect that game debugging shit similar to the one you find on Neo Geo games can be enabled too but I'm yet to discover where that is.
By the way, "LOCA TEST VERSION" does not show the endings when you beat the last boss.... Instead it shows this screen: So yes, let's have fun when it release ...
Something about it being a location test and they hope you have fun when the game releases the final version... I was like WTF when it popped up but then I figured out they probably never wanted players to see the endings before the game was gold ... I remember playing an location test game here in Brazil in 1994 (It was the first game of that series, Darkstalkers) and they gave me an answer cards with CAPCOM logo in it. They wanted me to fill it with my impression on the game. After that they gave me an card with Felicia in it. Pics: back side: "Dreamy feline / Born in USA at 1967" "Not only a warrior she is an exotic dancer. And because she is the youngest of the Darkstalkers she is aways trying to prove her might. Special powers: Rolling Scratch, Rolling Buckler, Delta Kick, Sand Splash."
I'm wondering if you fiddle around with this if a menu comes up that allows hit box data to be shown for characters. Same way as they did with gian (super turbo player) to make the yoga book hyper book. They gave him a hyper street fighter 2 anniversary edition board that showed each characters hit box data.
