I think some of the the system spec should be one processor should be a little endian unit with none standard bit size for a byte and demand aligned data. the other processor should be big endian and use standard 8-bit per byte. the storage media should be 8" floppy disks or laser discs with caddy load.
Did a mockup it's shapped like a cheese and called CBOX (Cheese BOX) it got flame decals and a lighting bolt to give it that extra kick ass feeling.
It's small in length but wide (aka coke-can). Hopefully something can be done for this as Barc0de isn't the man I first met...
devzone check this old thread out, which was sadly killed by a pessimist. But it was an awesome thread none the less. And well it is isn´t locked. Modern 2D Console
An online buddy of mine makes this http://www.retroleum.co.uk/v5z80p.html This is all his own creation. Check out the demo video!
Its a shame how that post ended up well at least its still open so we could jump into the thread or maybe pull opethfan into this thread Thats a pretty nice system, using an fpga does simplifiy things a lot
Well, ASSEMbler socalled weird LSD like trippy dream, and his lols. Then check this out http://tarjan.uw.hu/zxclones_en.htm the ZX clones were indeed more powerful than the normal ZX. SO check this site out. And be amazed google search
cool. lol I have that song on my playlist Impossamole.hes - high score  edit btw. this thread reminded me of these demos by tapir http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCZeJdG20xY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcOxR8Rn87A
yeah, if you look back it was all chips at one stage, but progressed so the custom chip stuff is all on one FPGA. The main processor is a Z80 though
Just buy NES clones in bulk and slap Vii on them. They'll sell like hotcakes to the illiterates. *bellows evil laugh*
Okay. Someone make designs, tell me where to buy the parts and I'll go find my soldering iron. Wait found it.
i would buy a 2D powerhorse console aimed at emulation/homebrew. you should look at that "creating a 2d console" topic, kev. it was great!
How to make a 8 bit machine that everyone would want to make. 1 - Take a Zilog Z80A 2 - Add a smattering of RAM, at least 16K 3 - Grate some Texas Instruments TMS9918A into it 4 - Dice some fresh Texas Instruments SN76489 or if you don't have that a General Instruments AY-3-8912 will do the trick 5 - Mix well and add a smattering of logic chips and a RF Encoder 6 - Poor into a nice pre greased console shell, you may want to make yours a bit different to the one shown. 7 - Bake at gas mark 5 for 30 minutes and sell for £129 or something. It's worth keeping away from strong consoles like the Famicom.
Well, I was bored and wanted to contribute in some way with the topic, so I started messing around with 3dsmax. After an hour, I could turn the box where I started into something that looks like a console, so here it is: Remembering the fact I didn't make it in a serious way (didn't make any measures or anything) I think it doesn't look that bad I didn't know what was the best idea for storage (carts, discs, SD cards) so I didn't put anything yet. The two ports in the front are for USB joysticks. I still have to make something with the textures and materials, they still look extremely plain. Well, that's all for now, I gotta get some sleep so maybe I improve it a bit later.
