Tinnitus is a high pitched whistle. Whilst it is usually caused by exposure to loud noise, it certainly doesn't have to be. It can actually be... nothing! Your brain adjusts to the fact that it's not hearing anything - basically like turning up an amplifier when you can't hear anything. You'll often get some kind of white noise come out of the speaker - same thing. I can hear CRTs, and it doesn't bother me. When there's a television programme / game on, it's not really noticeable anyway. You could put on some proper acoustic earplugs, which reduce the volume of higher frequencies, but that's rather a case of overkill, I'd say!
Noise Cancelling headphones, powerful speakers. Or just get used to it. When I moved last year, I had my CRT not in use for a long time. When I first turned it on after finally setting it up, I couldn't stand the whine for a few months. I eventually got used to it, and on somedays it's still annoying. And others not at all.
OK sorry to bring this up 4 years later, but I have a CRT TV that's driving me crazy. Anyone here actually "fixed" this kind of issue? Some people say it's the flyback thing or other things inside the TV that can be replaced. Look, this guide even says it's possible to poke around the stuff "(flyback, deflection yoke, other transformers)," to find what is causing the noise: http://www.repairfaq.org/samnew/tvfaq/tvwhine.htm Should I just go to a repair store and tell them about a noise? The TV is working alright. But the noise like vanishes if I touch the bezel lol HELP!
Theoretically it's possible to glue FBT сoil so noise will be much quieter but it requires some skills because it's a high voltage component and you don't want random discharges here and there. It also applies to any transformer or inductor. Basically alternating current with sound frequencies can turn any of these into a speaker - that's why you hear high-pitched whine from switching PSUs and low frequency hum from transformer ones. Glue stops parts from moving so they won't make noise.
Yeah. And it clearly is some kind of vibration happening in some of these electric components because when I hold it it stops. Of course I'm not opening a crt tv. I don't even have the long screw drivers needed for that. The problem is finding someone trustworthy to do that. I could just use the official technical assitance though. I've read in some thenical forums about possibilities of wrong voltage in some components, but that usually affects the display of the tv and it'ss usually noticeable like frying a tiny cable inside that needs to be replacced. Not anything impossible to fix. Damn this lack of knowledge.
