I picked up a nice sized (ok, big) CRT along side the road this morning. Checking the connections on the back, it has Component, and SD CRTs with component almost always can do 240p component video...so I grab my SCART to Component adapter, hook it up and I see something I don't like. The screen has a vertical scrolling issue. It only occurs on Component, and sometimes with the Scart to Component Adapter. If I hook up a PS2 with Component, and load up a PS1 game (Which goes down to 240p) and no scrolling screen. I fear its the Scart to component adapter. Evidenced by this video. http://youtu.be/d95_62rFK1A (I know the colors are off, the TV needs a massive degausing) I have gone inside the adapter, and twisted all the pots to see if one worked with sync, and nothing. Should I replace the adapter?
I guess you got that little black box that sells for around 60$ on ebay. I bought it and I hate it. Here on my CRT the colors are always terribly off, no matter how I tweak the pots inside. No scrolling picture though.
Are you certain it has 240P support? Isn't a PS2 in PS1 mode still 480i? Sounds like the TV doesn't like 240P. Easy way to test is plug a NES's composite cable or any other console's composite cable (like a snes or genesis) into the Y jack on the tv. If you get a black and white picture with no issue, 240P should be fine. Can't watch the video as I'm at work. Otherwise, it's probably a problem with the sync output from the converter and adjusting it could fix it.
Well after tinkering around with the inside of the TV and other connections, the scrolling issue was an issue inside the TV. I sold it to a guy who scraps out TVs and went to the Salvation army and got a smaller TV with the same kind of connections. It works flawlessly with a 240p signal from my PS2 playing PS1, from my Scart to YUV converter...and it kind of does 480p. It shows the image twice on both sides of the screen, so I'll assume it's not capable of 480p.
