I click "New game" and then it plays the intro for 1.4 seconds before freezing and playing a repeating sound. I press escape. It goes to the load screen. It loads to like 20%, stops, and the music repeats like "Guh-guh-guh-guh-guh-" forever, and then goes back to the main menu by itself after a while. I dont even get any error messages. NOTHING. I got some when I tried installing the game, but I think I downloaded what it said to, and the game installed. BTW, how do you get the map editor? I know its called Sandbox2 in the DVD folder, but when you install it from there, how do you get to it? It might be on the programs startup list, I didn't check... Has anyone had this happen before, and if so, HOW did you fix it?
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your PC (especially video and sound). If your PC (CPU, memory or video card) are overclocked, un-overclock them; also check your memory timings are set to auto or are set to the spec of your memory.
First, can you tell us more info about your computer? CPU? Graphic Card? Check that all your drivers (mainly GC ones) are up to date. It works pretty well on Vista 64 so there's a problem somewhere. Check if there's a patch for the game. Finaly, check that the temperature of your computer isn't too high. You can use Everest or Speedfan to check it.
Ugh...I THINK its a .Net problem. I tried installing C++ earlier (for a game that needed it) and I couldn't get .Net for a 64 bit system. Every version I found of .Net didn't freaking work at all. I download the 3.5 version, ok, and then it says I need the 3.0 version. All right. I download that (the 64 bit version) and it asks me to turn off Features. I turn them off and my PC tells me to restart. I restart AND THOSE FEATURES ARE STILL ON. I try the 3.0 version again and it tells me to TURN THEM OFF. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ...Anyways, my specs: 8800 GT Geforce Dual Core Processor 4 gb RAM I tried installing the patch and I got an error message as well. I got Crysis to actually work, HOWEVER, the game would stutter like crazy, even on low settings. I had the FPS rate showing, and it was near 100 in low mode, but it would still stop for like 5,10, and sometimes 15+ seconds for no reason at times, while before that the game was running smoothly. I really think its a .Net problem, I think my version of .Net is way too low, and I have no effing clue on how to install the newest version on this OS. EDIT: I didnt update my sound driver, that MAY be the problem...I hope, anyway. I still think its .Net thats the main culprit in my gut, however. EDIT: Im not sure if my current video card is overclocked or not. AWS told me it was factory OC'd, but Im not sure.
Well, the installation error from the pic probably is because Visual C++ 2005 must be a 32-bit only application and maybe 64-bit Vista editions can't handle it, or C++ can be having some kind of conflict with .NET. I'm pretty sure .NET is included in Vista, and even if the version is low it should be updated automatically... BTW, in the NVidia site you can find the default clock speed of your card, try downloading a system analysis program to find out your card's current speed. If it's factory overclocked the card should can handle it, but like Crysis is an extremely heavy game the card's temperature can be getting too high...
For the map editor it's in crysis/bin32/editor.exe. As for your other problems .net can cause all sorts of wierd crap if it installs faulty for some reason.
My Motherboard was the cheapest part of my PC, sans the CD drive. Its a Gigabyte...a P35-DS3L How do I check to see if I have Visual Studio .Net? Also, if its not too much trouble, could someone link to a 64 bit version of .Net? The one I downloaded from Microsofts download site might have been the wrong thing. EDIT: Ok, I just uninstalled .Net. Im on the Microsoft download site, but all of the .Net downloads have visual studio next to them. So, uh....where do I go?
OK, I just reinstalled Crysis. The repeating sound crap doesnt happen quite as often, but it still does it every now and then. I still want to get .Net and C++ installed, though...I also have an Oblivion mod that requires them to work.

*Sigh* I figured this would happen again... Is it possible to read these .Tmp files to see what the problem is? I think I'm gonna do a fresh install of Vista though...that might take care of all my problems.
Have you installed anything directly to your C drive? That can fuck up vista. You probably do just need to do a fresh reinstall. For future reference try to install everything to your documents or games on a seperate partition at least like i do. You might have done that by accident though while installing an older game
First off, a disclaimer: I develop software on a machine running Vista x64. Also, installing something to your C: drive can have issues if the application was not written to handle Vista's UAC. You can try running the app as an administrator and see if that clears things up. Vista comes with .NET 3.0. You should be able to pick up .NET 3.5 from Windows Update, I'd check there and see if it is available as an option. Also, if you have not installed Vista SP1, I would highly recommend doing that. If you really want to install .NET 3.5 you can grab the web installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en Or the full installer http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/f/60fc5854-3cb8-4892-b6db-bd4f42510f28/dotnetfx35.exe Both installers work for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of windows. I would recommend the full installer, its a bigger download but you get everything you need to install it at at once. Now, as far as the Visual C++ runtimes are concerned, you need to install the x64 versions. That you can find at the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=90548130-4468-4BBC-9673-D6ACABD5D13B&displaylang=en Those should install without any issues. As others have already said, remove any overclocking settings and check your memory timings. If you aren't sure how to do that, then I wouldn't worry about it for now
None of those worked...my PC is seeming to get worse and worse, and I keep getting messages about my hard disk failing...Im just gonna reinstall Windows. I hope this doesnt affect the ability to backup folders on DVDs tonight...
I've already uninstalled all my games and stuff and my system seems a bit more stable, but I'm still going to reinstall Vista. I don't think its my hard drive, because all these problems came about when I tried to install Crysis. When I uninstalled it, my system stopped acting funky to a certain extent.
Yup, reformat. I run Crysis no prob on Vista 64. Sounds like your installation is all funky before too.
