After Free Radical kicked the bucket and was purchased by Crytek, it looked like there was no hope for a new entry to the much-lovedTimeSplitters franchise. In spite of this, a few optimistic supporters started a petition begging for a TimeSplitters 4. And by "a few," I mean 75,000. Crytek, as the current owner of the IP,wasn't impressed enough to justify developing a new installment, but it did the next-best thing: the company gave a team of 25 talented fans official permission to resurrect the series with a new game. This fan-directed project aims to capture the best parts of the TimeSplitters trilogy, and has been appropriately dubbed TimeSplitters Rewind. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122678-TimeSplitters-Respawns-Onto-PC
About bloody time, give talented FANS to create the game. Best idea I've heard in a while. Seeing that so many companies that "remake" a title fuck it up. Great news! Thanks for sharing
I hope the new CryEngine isn't as horrible as the first one that required the world's most powerful supercomputer to run at decent detail levels.
i still need to go back and complete the original Farcry. my computer at the time could just about handle it. on topic, seems its multiplayer only but very ambitious at 300 playable characters and they're planning on recreating the original maps, hopefully they'll do a good job labour of love and all that
This is definitely awesome news. Love to hear that it will be fan made, free, and that Crytek seemed so supportive even offering them assets from the main TimeSplitters titles (according to the article).
i don't think SEGA understand the concept of "Fans" someone over there in sega HQ needs a good right hook from mike tyson to knock some sense into them.
Never played the series (I'll get to it, just wait!) but this is super awesome. Hope it doesn't take too long!
I played these games, mainly 2 and 3 a lot years ago. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
Fantastic news (I too signed the petition), thanks for the information. I still play TS2 and TS3 (TS: Future Perfect) to this day (TS3 has a much better single player game than TS2, but TS2's multiplayer is slightly better than TS3's).
Great News. A nice idea too would be a HD collection just like Metal Gear solid, Ratchet and clank + sly.
I wish, E.X. Phantasy Star Universe being the newest disappointment with no fan alternative as of yet. TimeSplitters was a cool series I didn't get to enjoy it as much as some of you as I wasn't a real fan of it, but It'd be cool to see what some indie fans can come up with. I just hope the industry gives them more backing as the project progresses so we can see it on the consoles ( Maybe even via distribution through the arcade/mini systems ).
Where've you been lol? CryEngine 1 was pretty well optimized. CryEngine 2 was far beyond it's time with Crysis visually but suffered optimization/CPU issues CryEngine 3( current) is very scalable and very optimized. If they make the game DX9 only it will perform on a wide range of PCs without too much issue while still looking fabulous Also: Disappointing this is MP only. I loved the SP parts of TS. But still look forward to it
it may support community mods so there is still hope for single player if someone wants to make SP campaign for it but thats a hellova lot of work.
AWESOME! This is certainly one of the first times that I'm really looking forward to the completion of a fan-made project! Hopefully they will include 4-P splitscreen and local/online CO-OP options
Yeah that is true. I'll probably end up happy with just the MP. I did have a lot of fun playing MP with friends back in the day
This is really nice. I finished 2 & 3 on Gamecube. Didn't own a PS2 at the time so didn't get a chance to play it
