I did some searching to see if this question was answered anywhere, and couldn't find it, so I think it's safe to ask. Assuming you could make a cart with enough storage capacity, would it be possible to boot and run an entire Saturn game from the cart slot, or is there some inherent limitation that would prevent that from working?
In theory if all games used standard function calls to access disc data you could hijack those functions and run them from some sort of device running from the cartridge port. Who knows how well it would work but it's probably possible. There is such a thing for PS1 but it's not designed for commercial games but homebrew loading instead.
I keep saying this, I'm pretty sure I saw an interview (with Rockin'B?) on a German Saturn website about talk of a CF (TF?) card mod, tapping in to the CD drive bus. But I cannot seem to locate that webpage, I looked several times to no avail. :dejection: (I know it might sound like I'm trying to be interesting, but I do hope someone can find that article again to at least prove me right) Found it: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?18927-The-State-of-Sega-Saturn-Homebrew http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/saturn/the-state-of-sega-saturn-homebrew Yeah... 'talk' is all. but the general idea is there, it COULD be the case 'someone' is testing all of this already... *crosses fingers*
