After saying I'd do this for over a year I finally got of my arse today and done it. While there are loads of pictures here, these are not all of them since I'm keeping the rest for the feature I'll do on my site. I spent a lot of time getting the same (when possible) screen shots for both beta and final releases so I'd appreciate it if nobody ripped them off.

First up are the two different title screens. Notice how the final version has bump mapping.

Next is the coffee cup. In the beta you'll notice that there's no steam coming from the cup but in the final there is.

Here you can see that Kimbly had really skinny block like legs originally plus her entire body looks square. Check out that square arse !

More of Kimbly. Notice how straight and triangular her brests are in the beta.

Lara has better defined clothes in the final plus there's a map on the wall.
    [IMG][IMG]

The outside of the cabin looks pretty bland in the beta as does the surrounding area.

There are loads of other differences which you can see when I finally finish the feature and add it to my site. Most noticeable difference is the amount of lighting using in the final plus better defined textures. There are also many audio differences too.

Yakumo is this from an early demo or from a GDR beta?

From an beta but I have pictures or a video somewhere of even earlier Dreamcast D2 stuff. I'll try and dig them out. D2 was delayed in Japan by 1 year. It was meant to be a launch game at first and was the very first Dreamcast game to be started. Way before Blue Stinger was and that was released a long time before this. Shenmue doesn't count since that was already in development for the saturn then ported to the DC (with improvements of course) where as D2 was a whole new idea compared to it's original M2 version.

By the way, did you know that the Lara in Enemy Zero was a proto for the D2 Lara? You'll also see Kimbly and Parker in Enemy Zero as well !!

    very interesting comparison, Yakumo :)

I wasnt aware of the differences between the early and final versions of D2 on Dreamcast.

I would love to also see the two different versions of D2 on the M2 :)

  5. Very nice way of comparing Yakumo, great job you done there.

...Hmmm, makes me think that maybe I should do the same with a load of games that I know differ from Alpha to Final.

Wasn't it Laura was the lead writer/developers wife or something, which is why she is in all their games? I think I read that somewhere... maybe...

The wind up musical box is very nice as it plays the theme tune to the game.

I've got a few other pieces that I'll reveal at a later date.

Wow this is a post from the past. Well, the final version is still on my hard drive :( Still never got around to finishing it so here is another little Beta Vs Final shot for you until I get it done.

The target system was different on the beta.

The monster guy has his hood up in the beta but down in the final. Lighting is also very different.
