I don't know how many PC gamers are floating about, but Bethesda released Daggerfall as a free download today. The most recent patch is included, and there are instructions on how to get it running on their site. Obviously they aren't supporting it, but it's not terribly hard to get it running if you have any kind of DOS experience. http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.php Filefront's download speed is reportedly faster: http://www.filefront.com/14005983/The-Elder-Scrolls-Daggerfall-Full-Free-Game/ If you haven't played it and you're a glutton for punishment, do yourself a favor and download this classic.
I'll have to give it a try, I'll download it right now I hope I can run it via DOSBox, I've heard many times that Dagerfall (following Bethesda's tradition) is a living bug... BTW, I don't remember seen it posted here, but if you enter Bethesda's site you'll notice they bought ID Software (I actually noticed it about a week ago when I got the 1.6 patch for Fallout 3 but forgot about posting it )
It's buggy, but with the 2.13 patch it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I'd say the final version of Frontier: First Encounters is far worse. If anyone wants working instructions on how to get it going in DOSBox, I've written some up on the Elder Scrolls forums. The instructions Bethesda wrote up are comprehensive but flawed. http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1012957 And yeah, ZeniMax's acquisition of id was a huge surprise to me and everyone else I know. It was totally unexpected.
Hmm, I remember having problems getting it to run on Windows 98, although it ran fine on Windows 95! On my 98 machine with a Voodoo3, it kept crashing to the desktop. Great game, though!
