Either you should limit the offtopic section to only a special kind of non offending, non political, non controversial threads or just let it go until a thread dies, I don't really see the point in locking aka low level censorship ;-) .
Actually that wouldn't be a bad idea to limit it to no politics,sex and contrivercial topics. Would keep it more fun and not as damn serious as it has been as of late. I come here for fun , i can hear serious crap in the real world all day.
Gah, I was sortof hoping that even despite the rest of the internet's obsession with the idea of some oppressive force stomping on their rights, we could all be big kids and avoid use of the 'censorship' word, but it seems to have finally reared its ugly head. The reasons these topics are getting locked are slightly varied, but it mainly comes down to keeping a bit of order on the board and making sure that there's no hard feelings among people in our little community because let's face it, politics is a topic that can easily degenerate into a heated debate. We have many people here that hold strong views about things, and there are also many people who don't have a good goddamn idea what they are talking about (and some people who are a combination) and this together almost ensures a rather volitile conflict every time the topic is breached. Other topics that have been locked recently have contained images that were rather gruesome and offensive, and really have no place on ANY decent messageboard, and there was overwhelming support from all of the mods for the decision to lock said thread. So basiclly, I suppose we mods are guilty of censorship, if that's the label you'd care to put on trying to make the forums a place where everyone can feel comfortable and at ease and where there aren't any bad feelings held against anyone for their opinions. If that requires the locking of a few topics, then I think that's a small price to pay, and I'm sure others and the rest of the mods will agree with me.
