For some month now, I'm investing some money to make my gaming setup better instead of buying Zelda games ;).

Since forever I was playing my games on my old 19" CRT with only composite video and mono sound (LOL).

So I've got a 46" plasma, and I decided to get an XRGB-3 so my 240p game show up properly. Also I wanted to use RGBS as connection for all my 240p system, so to avoid switching all the time the cables I've got an Extron MVX 84 matrix switcher. This way everything is connected to the D2 RGB input on back of the XRGB.

What is cool about a matrix switcher is that this allow me to bypass the XRGB for my PS2. I only use the ps2 RGB out through XRGB for PS1 games otherwise I use YUV directly to my TV for 480i/480p & 1080i signals.

Since the Extron switch use VGA and 3.5mm input I modified existing SCART cable to put instead a VGA and a 3.5mm audio connector at the end.

I'm using two APC P11VT3 power bar. This is perfect for older system since each have 6 plug for big wall adapter and also space for 5 conventional power cord.

I'm planning to add a bookshelf with some drawer so I can store all my game and accessory within one TV Bench. I'm using Ikea's BESTA storage solution. So it's easy to expand. Currently I have only the two lower frame. I will also add some glass door to avoid dust cleaning ;).

    Current Setup:

From Top-left to Right-Bottom: PS2 Slim w/ Matrix ModChip, PS3 Slim, Wii w/ YAOSM, Dreamcast, Panny TC-P46G15, Genesis Power Base Converter w/ bottom plastic removed so it fit Gen2, Cable Box, XRGB-3, Extron Switcher MVX 84, HDI Dune Base 3.0, New Famicom RGB Mod w/ FDS, Genesis 2 w/ Sega CD & 32X, Atari 7800, SNES, Saturn, N64 RGB Mod w/ 64DD.

    How it work:

I finally completed my setup. I added one shelf and put glass doors.

Very functional, whole collection at the same place now. And all system are connected so no need to disconnect/connect any cables to play something.

Those drawer with windows look really nice!

A matrix switcher is definitely the way to go - great job getting that into place.

Thanks also for the details on xrgb + matrix, as I plan to do that myself in the future...

Seriously the xrgb3 and the matrix switcher is a perfect match.

The xrgb do a pretty bad job on filtering the signal but with the switcher the problem is gone since the switch do some filtering itself.

One thing to remember is that it do not accept composite video as sync unlike the xrgb, so your need to modify your cables on the console end to take the composite sync output instead of composite video. For system without composite sync you need to add an LM1881 in the cable (PSX, PS2, PCE).

I noticed you wrote "BD" on your DVD drawer. Are people in Quebec maybe more French than I've thought? :D I didn't know you'd go as far as calling comics BD, considering Quebec still is on the American continent.

The setup looks quite nice btw. I like the clean and tidy organization. :)

Yes we call comics book "Bande-dessinée".

But this is just a CD case where I put all my NGC, Wii, PS2 and PS3 games.

So BD is for "Bluray Disc" ;)
