Hey guys im in Australia on business for a month, and i wondered if any Aussie can point out to me how there tariffs and things work.

at the moment i have a Optus prepayed social sim card, which i though gave me 500mb of data... turns out it didn't and i woke up to $0 credit remaining... oh well $15 wasted, for internet im sharing with my colleague 2weeks worth of Jimojo Wifi which only allows 4gb of data between us... which is nothing when i have to Skype back to the uk every day, that also cost $80 and i doute its going to last more than another 2 days, and ive been here 3days..

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    PS Fuck you jetlaggggg!!!!

the $30 optus mobile credit has unlimited social data so you should be able to use skype with that.

Optus have great plans but their coverage is not as good as Telstra's especially in rural area's depending on where you go. Though Telstra's plans are mostly crap.

The Internet is slow and expensive in Australia. If you must go through a mobile, it may very well be worth it to pony up the bucks and get something with Telstra, because they at least have decent coverage. Stay away from anything Vodaphone related.

Oh boy do I agree with this! Australia sucks for internets speed. My house is 4 or 5 years old and can only get ADSL, a mate who lives 3 minutes away in a 30yr old house has ADSL2.....go figure. (Oh dear first world problems...)

Just had a thought, check out what TPG can do for you. I am with them and have been for years with no drama. Having said that, that is an established house and not "mobile".

Here is a link for you to check out http://www.tpg.com.au/mobilebroadband/plans.php

Yes, TPG are the best value for money actually. I'm with them for ADSL2+, although speeds isn't the best it's great for unlimited usage unlike Titstra.

Mobile is a bit tricky here. It's taken years for DSL prices to settle but mobile stuff is still relatively new on the market so the prices are still a bit high.

Optus have "$2 days" which give you unlimited data.. https://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaidmobile/2dollardays
Not sure if it has to be used on a certain device or what. Shouldn't be restricted like that.
