From the Escapist: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101725-Dating-Sim-Girls-Dump-Pirates That's just awesome. -hl718
Zing! Haha nice, but then again who pirates a dating sim? And I've to disagree: guys who spend their money in dating sims (and love pillows) have no money left for ACTUAL dates, and ergo never get laid...
Well it's nothing new. Earthbound had similar copy protection where things look like the game is working but then it crashes and erases your game at some point. I think also the difficulty might be ramped up. I recall some other game doing something like that where the difficulty become very hard. I remember reading in Demon's Crest they really are assholes as the 2nd or 3rd boss is just plain invulnerable if you are tripping the copy protection.
Yep, Second best I still think is Batman PC which disables a key feature that will make advancing through the early part of the game impossible. It's funny because a pirate even went on the companies boards to complain about how broken the game was. Copy Protection is common in jpn DS games. Hell a few square enix games let you play for a while then cut out with a message akin to saying thanks for playing this demo, buy the game.
Oh, I remember that. That was awesome. Doubly so because the game hadn't even shipped yet! I personally love novel forms of copy protection like this, so long as they make it obvious they are copy protection. Unfortunately, simply making the game break can lead to bad word-of-mouth since people won't often admit that they pirated the game and that's never good. -hl718
They did this in Half-Life 2 as well, disabling Alyx's AI in the Black Mesa East level so you couldn't proceed. It was funny seeing all the complaints, because you knew everyone complaining hadn't bought the game
Around the launch of Umihara Kawase DS, I'm pretty sure that even some news sources were saying that game-breaking bugs were present. Which there were... if you were using a Supercard, or whatever.
my CD-R of Space channel 5 part 2 won't let you advance past the first boss despite having a 100% score lol
