    Hi all,

You ever walk through a modern arcade and stumble upon an old Daytona Racing cabinet? And when you stand there for a moment listening to the silly music and watching the ugly pixels pass by do you ever say to yourselves........

"I'd pop in some coinage but I have a better version at home on the Dreamcast"

Cause that's what I do. Why the hell do I have to pay money for a game that I have at home? And to top it all off the DC home version has 4 extra tracks and upgraded visuals!

Now, I'm not bashing the cabinet. I would love to own one. The real question is....Does the Dreamcast version of Daytona USA completely wipe the floor with the arcade / saturn versions?

The choice is yours and yours alone!

The original Daytona USA game is still great fun and even with the extremely dated graphics it sells more than Scud Race/SEGA GT which runs on the MUCH more powerful Model 3 board.

The Dreamcast version is sure pretty but the point of playing on the cab is the force feedback and network features. I heard from the arcade operator I am friend with that SEGA would release a new version of the game recently on their current gen coin-op hardware.

I can only hope they do ...

And I hope they release it on XBLA/PSN.

Never had much time playing the DC version, but the Arcade version is unforgetable. Multiplayer racing PERFECTION!

If Sega ported the original arcade to PSN / XBLA, with multiplayer support (8, like on the arcades), it would surely become the biggest sucess on those digital download services.

No need to improve the graphics or anything, just upscale it to 1080i and we're sold.

But again, Sega doesn't seem to like money these days. Just remember how much time they took to port After Burner Climax.

The original Saturn conversion of Daytona USA may not have looked all that good (even though I didn't have any complaints - it was, after all, a launch title for a console that was rushed to retail several months early!), while the later Championship Circuit Edition improved the visuals slightly, stripped the game of its arcade-perfect handling and most of the classic vehicles. Finally, there was the 2001 remake for the Dreamcast that combined the Battle On The Edge graphical style with all previous home versions, though it did lack the bonus course that was featured in Deluxe/Evolution on the PC.

If we ever did get a new package similar to that of the recent AGES 2500 range, I'd love to see an option allowing you to play Daytona and its Model 3 sequel with their original graphics (and various higher resolution modes, too) plus the extra CCE and 2001 tracks along with everything from Scud Race... but who else feels that would never happen in our lifespans based on the time it took Sega to get something as relatively simple as AfterBurner Climax out there?

    Well, Sega's in luck then,

All they would need to do is port the DC version of the XBLA, PSN, , Wii VC and rake in the money!

Hmm, the DC version is the most modern, but you can't beat the motion cabinet of the arcade game.

I wish they would just put the DC version in a cabinet then instead of just building a new cabinet around an old game.

Ya, that would be the whole point of updating/re-doing the game (I.E.: Selling it again for all the arcade operator customers who've been asking for a remake/re-run of production over the years)

And while the "original and beautiful" MODEL2 game is finally playable on emulators, it's an masochistic experience due to poor controls emulation and programming.

Even having the graphics being enhanced by running on higher resolutions and with hardware accelerated aliasing from modern video cards it won't pay up for the lack of proper controls and force feedback from the original cabinet.

Talk about half assed arcade experience... lol

Naomi is dead. It died when they pulled the plug on new games being made for it.

If they do something new it will be on RingWide/RingEdge system.

I realise that, but a port from Dreamcast to NAOMI would be the most logical choice for an arcade version of Daytona USA 2001 - it would take far less time than reworking the game as a Ringwide title!

    Yep,

It would be the most efficient choice then what they did with "Sega Racing Classics" where they just build a new cabinet around an old game. As I said above, they should've built the new cabinet and put the DC version inside instead of the outdated version of Daytona USA. All they would have to do is just change around the title screens since they lost the rights to the Daytona franchise.

The graphics would be better, more tracks, and the same old force feedback feel.

I haven't read the above comments so I'm sorry if I'm repeating something. The bottom line is how a game plays. The Dreamcast version of Daytona may look nicer but it's NOT Daytona. It plays nothing like the original with a pad, joystick or wheel. The cars also look different which takes away some of the Daytona feel. The ONLY home version of Daytona to play like the original arcade is the first Saturn version. This is far better in the playability area than the Dreamcast version.

I'm old enough (34) to know the original Daytona and all other versions as they were released. I've played ALL versions to death and I can tell you with confidence that the Dreamcast version is not better than the arcade no matter how much more pretty it looks. In fact I'd rather play the Saturn original for arcade thrills.

Now, I'm off to play the arcade version through nebula.

In the US version you can adjust the analog sensitivity in the controller option.

I know but it still doesn't play like Daytona. The physics are all wrong for a start.
