The Dreamcast pictured above is a none working model. Take a close look at the lid and you'll see that it can't be opened. I love the raised clear triangle though. At least the Japanese final DC's have a clear triangle and not the crappy gray one that PAL machines have. What about the US systems?

  4. US systems have that grey triangle. So you could get a Japanese Dreamcast with that clear look right now?

Yes and no... The bottom triangle looks really cool but none really came out with that clear clear bottom triangle. Now the top triangle is more like what came wth the jap dreamcasts but even they werent clear clear... they were raised clear but the bottom of it is painted grey.... So its raised clear but its still not as lovely shinny as that one.

    .

Dural was later renamed Katana, becoming the Dreamcast.

I don't know if this pic is fake or what, I have a high quality version of it somewhere...

    FAKE???

There has been much debate over the yersabout the authenticity of that picture, from what I have read and been told,it is infact genuine but only as a peice of concept art for a 64 bit Sega machine. The picture is from 1997 so it would seem likely that Sega had plans for a 64 bit console before pushing ahead with an 128 bit one.The only people who could truly confirm info about this and the blackbelt designs have had their mouths firmly secured by air tight NDA's.

The Dreamcast is 32-bit, regardless of what Sega's PR hacks claim.

    Re: FAKE???

SOA was developing a 64-bit (yes, after the 32X) machine while SOJ was pushing the Saturn. This was before the Blackbelt. Maybe is this one?

The point is that statements as "it would seem likely that Sega had plans for a 64 bit console before pushing ahead with an 128 bit one" make no sense. 64 bit in what way? Technical, marketing or just because it was of the same "generation" as the N64?

Truth is the DC was marketed as being 128-bit just so it would be seen as being at least twice as good as the N64 (which really did use a 64-bit CPU). Obviously the kids ate it all up.

...and... it really is much better than the N64

Wait, I don't get it. The DC is actually 32-bit and not 128-bit? Is this kinda like the Jaguar that had 4 x 16-bit processors and being marketed as a 64 bit machine (Do the Math)?
Was there a discussion about this on the old board?

    !!

  19. Dreamcast is 128-bit, don't worry about it. And the thing with the Jaguar came down to something like it was capable of addressing 64 bits of info at once, or it had a 64 bit bus, or something like that, but it wasn't the 4 x 16 bit processors (it only had 2 real processors if I recall). Look around for the Atari Jaguar FAQ which will go into more detail on how exactly that worked.
