    Hei,

Just received my Hanzo unit (thanks Beharius, excellent service), but I am having problems getting it to play nice with my LCD TV.
When I hook up over VGA, I just get an 'out of range' message. This would suggest the input (Dreamcast) is supplying video in an unsupported resolution (which should not be the case).

So far I have tested the DC/Hanzo with a different LCD monitor and everything functions perfectly (blue light, fully functionality, 640x480 60Hz).
I have tested a laptop with the same TV/VGA cable running at 800x600 60Hz - fully functional.

In my TV manual I find info regarding PC input (VGA) support:

Signal: VGA, Horizontal: 640, Vertical: 480, Horizontal frequency: 31.5kHz, Vertical frequency: 60Hz, Standard: VGA
    * This TV's PC input does not support Sync on Green or Composite Sync.
    * This TV's PC input does not support interlaced signals.
    * This TV's PC input supports signals in the above chart (VGA, SVGA, XGA, WXGA) with a 60Hz vertical frequency. For other signals, you will see the message "NO SYNC".

Could any of the above be causing compatibility issues?
(The TV does respond when powering on the DC, but with nothing but a black screen and the 'out of range' message.

I will try another VGA cable (some google results suggested longer/shorter (better quality?) could have an impact), but this is actually a brand new belkin...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Neil

Update: no change with replacement VGA cable - hardly surprising...

    Update

Seems to be an issue with my LCD TV not liking the signal from my VGA box...
I have this working without issue elsewhere and have tested all functions. Not sure what is at odds though, as a laptop connected will display just fine.
I have read elsewhere that the DC may not output exactly 60Hz so that could be an issue...

If i switch the VGA cable over after boot I do get a flickering image on screen, but this is pretty heavily distorted:

    Capture_2.JPG

Note - the images above just flash up. Its mostly Blank, no sync or blank 640x480/60 displayed.

are you sure you are flipping the switch to 31khz because I know I will only get issues when I try the 15khz option with my Samsung. If I use my older NEC big screen tv it works like a charm for either 15/31khz. I would say make sure the box is fully in your dreamcast, and make sure you have the 31khz option on then try it from there

Hei tknjin, I've tested 31/15khz switch - start up in either mode gives the same result. Because of that I was concerned the vga box wasn't switching mode correctly, so I tested the same setup with a LCD monitor. Here the picture runs perfect, but with noticable flicker in the 15khz (PAL @50Hz?) mode vs VGA (@60Hz).

Druid, as far as I am aware the Hanzo outputs H & V sync. It works flawlessly on the other setups i have tried, so i can only say it must be something with my TV.

I've found mention of similar issues here. Solution - "you need a scaler..."
