How far along are they with the project? Is there anything testable out there now? Sorry if these are obvious questions. I'd just like to give the thread a little context and background.
DreamShell has been updated since 2004! It allows you to run games from a HDD or a SD Card in the serial port. The O.S is great and it's open source. You can find more information in the DC-Swat website.
Some advancements of recent is that Shenmue can now run on Dreamshell with few errors Head to 12:04, i was so proud i could end it on that move
Also from CF memory card (with IDE adapter), SD, SDHC, SDXC with SD adapters. Note that every method besides serial port adapter may force you to modify the motherboard and its case (optionally). Maybe Dreamshell isn't the best method to mess with Dreamcast, but the most customizable and basically totally free. It has purpose of improving the usability of your console and comes with extra functions.
The first time I ever used a Dreamcast, I freaked the fuck out when it started making those crazy grinding seek noises, and turned the console off immediately.
