So , here we go: this day , i went to a video game shop and i asked if they had any dc games. After discribing what a dc and the dc games looked like to the seller ( :smt043 ) , he found a box full of dc things. after swifing the dust out of the box with my arm ( :smt043 ) i've searched the lost treasure in it. most of the games were sports tittles, but i've found some intersting ones, like the DC web brower 2.0, factory sealed , for 10 bucks. there was also 2 DC web brower 1.0 sealed, but i didn't asked for the price . I must tell thatt i don't have alot of collector knowledge when it comes to the dc, since i don't have one for long so im asking you: - can i use the dc web brower with a pad? (i don't have a dc mouse and keyboard mouse yet.) , - can i still use it at this time? - can i surf everywere like on this site with it? - should i buy it for this price? -and finally , if i buy it, should i keep it sealed? thx! Edit: oh, speaking of sealed games , this remembered me the crazy video Rent store . just to say that i didn't forget to cehck for the japanese mario 2 , GSL :smt023 . i just don't really have the time these days, ill go there as soon as possible! ;-)
Answer to questions 1 & 2 is yes. Answer to question 3 is I don't know. Depends what the browser can handle. Japanese Dream Passport 3 or Premier can handle most stuff. Answer to question 4 is NO. It should be free or at least in Japan all the web browser discs for Dreamcast were free. Dream Passport Dream Passport 2 Dream Passport 3 (Has built in PC Engine & Mega Drive Emulator) Dream Passport BB Dream Passport Premier (Works on DC, PC and Mac) The only Web browsers you pay for in Japan are the ones like Hello Kitty or sakura wars. Hmm, well, I guess I'll chime in. I really don't think that a DC web Browser is worth that much. A DC browser came with every new Dreamcast, so theres definately a ton out there. I think I have about five myself. They don't really do much, other than allow you to surf the internet, and you can do that much more efficiently on a PC anyway.
Only available through the online service iirc, which are no longer online. There are free and more flexible alternatives if you want to surf the net on your DC. You may have ISP issues with the original planetweb browsers as I think they had limited dialup options or required you to use a particular ISP or something. Last I heard the alternative to get was Psylocybin Dreams (don't ask me), it can be found at http://www.psilocybindreams.com/index.html. I've not actually surfed the net on a DC before so I can't tell you how useful any of this will be; however as Yakumo said $10 for a Planetweb disc is a bad deal, whether it works or not.
1. I have no idea, but when I tried connecting a few months back with my Dial Up modem, it wouldn't let me. However, since it is connecting to the web and not a server, it should work. 2. When the DC was still in production, I was able to go to almost every website with 2.0, besides a few with advanced options. 3. No, no, and no. 2.0 disc's are actually very common. They came with the 2nd wave of Dreamcast's (The one's in the box with just the controler and the blue sky on the cover). Hell, in Tennessee you can buy them for .50 cents sealed. Best you buy it online. 4. No real point, actually.
Ask Trigga 007 about the compatibility... I think he used the DC to browse the web for months or maybe even over a year rayer:
I connected my DC up about 2 or 3 months ago and it worked to a degree, most of the servers are closed though now so unless you wanna pay subscription fees to private servers its not really worth it :smt022 Also I got my 2.0 browser direct from SEGA europe for FREE brand new and sealed, just mail them and they should send you one :smt023 so no don't buy it for that price ;-) PS Im new on this board so hello rayer:
Hi zilpha, welcome to ASSEMbler :smt023 why not tell us a bit about yourself over in the Introduce yourself ! topic http://www.assemblergames.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1860&start=75 Yakumo
Emailed Sega Europe to see what they said about sending me a Dream Passport CD, this was what they said: If I were you cahaz, I'd email Sega of America and see if you can get the same deal.
I have to say, that's damn good of Sega. Fair play to them for still supporting the DC owners of the world. Woooo rayer: Dreamcast. The legend lives on....
Hmm I don´t have Dreamkey 3.0 thanks for the tip guys I´m gonna ask SEGA to ship me one, I still browse using a free isp for uploading/downloading saves to the VMU´s I don´t like using XDP because I have a PAL keyboard. How are the PC Engine & Mega Drive Emulators?
Like I said, they were part of an online service Sega of Japan offered a long time ago. Not available or working any more unfortunately.
