I was wondering if anyone has a DC made in 1998? Is it common in Japan? Were all/most of the orange boxed DCs made in 1998? - Thanks
From http://www.dreamcasthistory.com/pics/historyus/wakeupcall1.jpg: Of course, the US date should be well known to gamers, it's not that hard to remember =P
According to Dark Watcher's site the DC was released on 25th Nov 1988, which presumbly means there were 50,000? or more manufactured in 1998? http://darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com/console/dc.htm Presumbly there are loads of them?..yes?...no? Cheers
Is there any way to find out your production date? mind you i have one of those asian ones with no modem with them....
The production date (month/year) should be stamped on teh silver serial number label. All of my US Dreamcasts indicate the month/year they were manufactured....
Paulo - I think you should find that the third digit of the bar code on the bottom of the DC gives the last digit of the year of manufacture....which in more sensible english (!) means the third digit is either 8 for 1988, 9 for 1999, 0 for 2000 or 1 for 2001. All of mine are 9,0 or 1. Folk with a japanese DC which is in a Orange box may be the only ones with a DC with an 8. (found the above on a japanese website ages ago and decrypted what it all meant)
Wow wish sega released the dreamcast in 1988 :smt023 Yep 9 here but not much of a shock seeing as i got it pretty late...
If you open your DC, you will find the month and year of manufacturing inside the case. Mine is january 1999. PD
I recall the liquid cooling system being included in the earliest systems. What does the assembly consist of and are they using a glycol mixture as the main cooling fluid?
>>I have a 1998 dated Dreamcast. It also has that liquid cooling system and metal fan in it. Is there a way to tell if a DC has liquid cooling? (without opening it!)
