Hey, I bought a Genesis 2 at a thrift store (with a 32X I havn't tested and a Sega CD that needs a bit of work) and it doesn't work. The LED doesn't come on, there's no picture and the voltage regulator (silver heatsink thing on the left hand side) gets pretty hot, almost too hot to touch at one point. There don't appear to be any shorted\broken traces on the board, and all the caps seems to be in place. Is my Genny dead? :noooo:

PS. An image of the PCB: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5107/p1010049vv5.jpg

    1. Try another power supply.
    2. Does it smell burned.
    3. Check for any cracks or fractures around the IC legs.

did you check with a Voltmeter that the PSU actually emits any power? Many MegaDrive PSU have gone bad for me over the years.

ah common thing that would happen with the 32x/sega cd owner is that they would mistakenly put the wrong dc adapter in the wrong system, thus frying it. The image isn't loading for me so i can't tell, but maybe you'd just need to replace some resistor?

If he knew how to use a voltmeter, he already would have.

I would say put up the highest resolution scan or picture you can of each quadrant.

I know how to use a multimeter, but I don't have one at the ready. I do have 2 chargers though, one for the 32x and the one for the Genesis.

LoL, I think it'd be easier if you just bought another one on eBay. ;)

I do have another one, a Model 1 system which runs ok, apart from a loose RF connection (Gonna have to solder RCA jacks to the back), but I hate having something not work and not know why. It angers me greatly :banghead: .

yeah, the rf connection on model 1 sucks. But cut your model 2 rf and solder the end to the model 1 rf. make a loop in it and use some metal wire and black tape to make it stick together without puting stress on the soldering. I did it and it works fine, without any loss.

if it angers you not knowing why it won't work, just hammer it and then you'll have a reason.

Ahah! One day where i was really bored i smashed one of my smb3 cart and fixed the board to the toilet's door. So we named it (the toilet) the smb3 ''coin'' (in french a common slang is to say i'm going to the little(''petit'') ''coin'' (or corner, translated) when we take a piss). Well aware of the meaning of coin in english, one day one of my friend who's working in electronic and stuff even decided to put a speaker on my on/off switch along with the light so that everytime we open it it makes the coin sound Ahah! i pulled it out though, it was annoying in the end, especially at night.

    Yeah, we where bored.

    68000 ripped :D

No idea if it still works, I had to use a box cutter to cut all the points, but the pins are still there. They're a bit flexible though.

...It's not like I'm gonna use it though, is it? :p
