So I picked up this rather cool florescent yellow PS2 controller from Hard-Off's junk section. Plug it in, and it's dead. Well, not entirely, the analogue LED light comes on, but that's all, the buttons and thumbsticks do nothing. This sort of thing might be expected from a badly-abused controller, but this one looks like its been barely used! Any idea what's going on here? Controllers are usually pretty tough, I've never known one to be just "dead". I've given the board an inspection, but there doesn't appear to be any damage. I've tried re-flowing the solder on the cable and ribbon cable, but no good. I've checked for continuity along the cable and everything appears to be good. I guess maybe there could be a problem with the cable, but if I needed to scavenge a new cable, I might as well just swap the entire innards from a working controller.

You could replace that plastic film thing they use now. [IMG]

That's possible, but the original doesn't appear to be damaged... Plus, the thumbsticks don't work either, their circuit is separate from the plastic circuit isn't it?
