About 2 years ago, my Nintendo Wii broke. I won't get into the details, but basically a Gamecube PSU was accidentally used instead of a Wii PSU (possibly backwards) and led to the system breaking. I think I remember the light going on for a second or two before it went out. Since then, I have gotten a new Wii, however, I now want to repair the Wii. The power indicator doesn't light when plugged in and nothing appears working. Is there an internal fuse that I can replace and where would it be? P.S. I also believe that the system had trouble reading the double layer disks if there is a way to fix it. Thanks
I don't think a GameCube power brick has the same connector as a Wii does. At least not without some modifications.
It doesn't. It is a long story and the details won't help fix it. I just want to know if an internal fuse exists or if the system is dead permanently.
Still looking for help. I just need to know if the Wii has a second fuse inside or if it is fried. Nothing looks burnt inside, but I am better at repairing older consoles (not that I am that great with those ether). No big rush though, I do have another Wii and I need a sensor bar for this Wii if I can get it working.
Have you tried contacting Nintendo. Their customer service is fantastic and more than likely they will transfer your digital purchases. All of this is assuming you haven't hacked your Wii.
The GC and the Wii both have 12v PSU's, if it was connected backwards then there is a chance a fuse may have blown on the board. You will need to open it up and check.
There is a fuse and it's close to the connector but you have to completely dismantle it to reach the said fuse.
I tried bridging it to see if it would turn on, but it didn't. I noticed the PSU starts making a clicking sound when I try to plug it in. I would assume that means the PSU is detecting something that prevents it from supplying power. Any ideas? EDIT: Tryed cleaning the contacts and re-bridging it. The light turned on. I'm going to test it for a bit and if it works, I will put it back together and order a new fuse.
I can probably send you a fuse. I have about 2348723487 dead wii motherboards from my Wii repair days.
It's shorted out. The "clicking sound" is the power supply cutting out due to the short circuit. I suggest you look up for a different motherboard.
Sure, that would be great. I can't imagine shipping costing too much, but whatever it is, I am willing to pay. Also, if you have a spare DVD drive ribbon cable, mine is faulty and the drive motor won't spin.
Got loads of those too, I will sort you some out. Will send new dvd ribbon, dvd power cable and a fuse
I've got a broken Wii in pieces here I can't do anything with (sports 4.3U and is basically a brick). Anyone want some parts?
Nevermind. I thought I would try softmodding it since I have another wii and see what I could get it to do. Well, I tried to get it to load gamecube games off my HDD and eventually slowly broke it. Then I broke bootmii and the homebrew channel. Then I bricked it. Long story short, don't try to alter any of the ios settings. EDIT: I didn't really need two Wii's anyway.
It was and I didn't. I always seem to break things like this on my first try. That's why I waited until I had a wii to practice on. At least the other wii is now softmodded and working great. EDIT: I broke my first Game Gear trying to solder new caps. Broke the first one, but the second was fine. Same goes for repairing my DS. I guess I just learn best from my past mistakes.
lol a wii which can use bootmii can be unbricked even if it has black screen brick and has no bootmii installed yet. All you need is a nand flasher.
Not for wiis that can only use bootmii as IOS. All wiis can use bootmii, only early ones can use bootmii as boot2 - which are the ones that can be unbricked without a nand backup. And hes already said it was bootmii/ios
Correct. It is just a brick, but it was mostly supposed to be a test dummy for my other Wii. I really don't need two Wii's and never did. I just had a feeling I would screw something up the first time. You can't say I was wrong about that feeling (not that you or anyone ever did).:smile-new:
