Source - http://www.risingstargames.com/game.aspx?sku=deadly-premonition-ps3 I don't know whether to be excited or enraged. It's No More Heroes Paradise all over again :dejection:
I still don't know whether people actually like this game, or if they're being all """"ironic"""" when saying it's good.
No, it really is a good game. I bought it just because it was cheap (The Japanese 360 game is fully in English!!!! Text and speech) and at first I thought it looked really poor (it had been in development for years) but I was slowly drawn in to it and honesly think it's one of the best games this generation. Sure, it doesn't look super hot and it can be a bit slow but the story and freedom make it a great game. I for one am looking forward to an improved version of the game. No so much the graphics since they weren't that bad but the controls. They did need sorting out. I just pray they keep the Japanese version with English options again. The funny thing is I heard the Japanese PS3 version is Japanese only. EDIT, Hang on, is this PS3 only? What a load of crap I'm sad now.
360 versions are not being sold in the domestic market in many cases now (Dark Souls, Blazblue). My local Tsutaya and Donki has pulled 360 games from their shelves so hoping for an Asian release on 360 unless the PS3 version is improved and on par with 360.
It's really not "good" per se (low quality graphics, bad controls), but it is a very enjoyable game because of the atmosphere and story.
Tsutaya were also one of the first to pull the original XBOX as well and Dreamcast. Down here you can still buy 360 games in all store with a good selection but I always buy from Amazon anyway if I want a new game and like you it's mostly Asian versions unless it's a Japanese exclusive. Which to me is good I don't really care for graphics that much to be honest except for racing games.
It's PS3 only because the PS3 version didn't get a Western release, but that's a bullshit reason in my book. Just a big kick in the balls to the majority of people who bought and loved the game enough for it to warrant a Directors Cut! Oh and when they say "HD Graphics" they're referring to the fact the original PS3 release could only run at 720p, the 360 version could run at 1080p though so i'm not expecting any visual upgrade. Nor do i want one, it looks fine the way it is. It's English speech with Japanese text, no option for English text. It was also quite badly optimized for the platform, i mentioned it only being able to run 720p, it also had frequent slowdown and other mild problems. So i can understand the want for a better made PS3 version but if you're adding new content why the hell not port it over to the already perfectly running version and release both!? This is where excitement vs rage comes in for me, i've been looking forward to this but i don't own a PS3 and see no reason this should be a PS3 exclusive, just like when Rising Star brought No More Heroes Paradise over and decided to only bring the PS3 version over. Idiot decisions made by idiot people.
I just saw rewak's post. It was posted like a minute before my post I might get the xbox version. Saw this game on friend's house and seemed pretty fun.
It's pretty damn good and, unlike most games today, will probably take a good 20 hours of solid gameplay to finish.
Personally I felt the thing was a parody of Silent Hill 2 amongst other games. Given I bought this on the 360 I feel a bit jipped it will be a PS3 exclusive. I can understand wanting to do a PS3 only release in Japan if the 360 isn't very popular but here in the US I know far more people with 360s than I do PS3s and everyone I know with a PS3 has a 360. I'm sure there are a number of PS3 only households in the US but limiting your market makes little sense unless you somehow don't have the talent and money to handle a dual platform release. Not like the 360 version isn't sitting somewhere ready to have additional content added. The PS3 version would've had to have been done from scratch pending they didn't have it half done some time ago.
