Hi all, I have abit of an issue, i have some broken Xbox Debug kits. I have removed their HDD's and fitted them to another XDK, they load up fine, i can view and use the contents while fitted to this machine, so great. Next i go to add the XDK to my computer so i can view the HDD contents, right up untill i get presented with this: Now i will take an educated guess and assume this password will indeed be a HDD password? The things i have tried was to use the original XDK HDD, i can add this no problem, no prompt for a password. If i use ANY of the hard drives from the other boxes, all want this password and i can't proceed without it! Now, what are my options? I can only assume this is related to a HDD lock, i am amazed if this is the case that the HDD's do work, but i'm unable to connect to them. Does anyone have any clues of what i can try? or indeed how to get this issue sorted out? I need to recover the contents. Many thanks to anyone who can input with some help. Cheers.
That is not a hard drive password. That is a system password. Mount the drives to a PC to recover the data. -hl718
But if it is a system password, why when i put the original hard drive back in do i not get prompted to input a password? With the original HDD, i can add the xbox as normal and view the HDD contents. I only get the above screen when i connect any of the HDD's removed from those debug kits. I also used a recovery disk then updated from the computer on the orignial HDD to make sure the system settings were blank, its still exactlly the same. So basically the original HDD i can access fine, only when i add one of those debug HDD's do i get prompted with this. Only thing i can think of is attempt to repair those debug kits, possibly swap over the eeprom which must contain the HDD lock data to match. I'm abit unsure..
Damn no edit option... Also probably worth while noting is all the permissions are HDD related, in terms of read / write etc. It deffinatly has to be HDD related, cause the original drive works fine when connecting to the computer.
When you put a login password on your Windows machine and you swap hard drives does the password follow the machine or the drive with the OS on it? It is not an ATA password and it is not an EEPROM password. This has nothing to do with hard drive locking. You have a password on the share. Mount the drive in a PC and you can read it that way. -hl718
Ah, i understand abit more where your coming from now. So basically you mean the password is a software that is loaded along with the dash on boot up? I never knew even such a thing existed on the xbox. i'll attempt to put the drives in a PC and see if i can get onto them that way when i get abit of time. What would you recommend software wise for mounting the drive in windows? I'm in XP if it makes any difference. Obviously windows as standard won't like the FATX partition. I know back in the softmod days people used to use things such as XBOXHDM or something, though i never did use HDD's on PC's. Thanks mate.
I've never heard of this for the original Xbox kits either. Is it essentially the same thing as the XeDK's computer lock? -Doom
Throw any app with telnet/ftp access on a dvd (xbmc, avaluanch, etc) boot the dvd, you can then browse the hdd to pull any files on it that you want to save then run the xdk recovery disc on it.
Now that my friend sounds perfect, thanks for the heads up on that :icon_bigg It never even crossed my mind to try such a thing. Brilliant though, will be having ago at this as soon as i get abit of free time. Cheers.
