Hello everyone I think my console gets to hot/noisy when I play PS3 games. What temperatures for the DECHA00A are normal? Temperatures in XMB (idle): CELL: ~67°C RSX: ~59°C FAN Speed: ~28% Temperatures when I play PS3 Games (Red Dead Redemption after 20-30 minutes): CELL: ~75°C RSX: ~70°C FAN Speed: ~30°C+ I think it's a little bit to much, but I don't know if this temperatures are normal on those old consoles with 90nm chipsize. I've removed IHS on both (CELL & RSX) and I've used new thermal paste (Arctic MX4) under the IHS and above. Maybe I should try another thermal paste?
Honestly that sounds around the same as mine. If you're paranoid like I am then crank the fan speed up higher when certain temps are hit.
Yes, maybe I'm a little bit paranoid! My retail PS3's were always slim models and the temperatures were much colder than the DECHA00A. That's why I'm a little bit scared about the temperatures. Maybe I'll try first another thermal paste in the next days. If it does not help then I'll increase the fan speed.
My personal preference is "as long as the fan isn't annoying anyone then it's good enough". But yes after owning a slim (testkit) and devkit (bigger one, 1000a) I can say the DECHA00A temps are a lot higher than those.
If you change the termal paste you will maybe reduce the temps, but your board will maybe die quicker. If you really looking for a solid kit, buy a 1400a.
Is there any pics of DECHA00 or DECR-1400a board? DECHA00 is probably the same as ordinary COK-001. A little bit offtop, just curios how far from DECR-1000 or COK-001 it is.
A00A is still the best to actually play on considering the EE chip instead of emu ps2, however with high temps indeed. My buddy plays on his intensively and it runs up in the 80/85 degrees most of the time. I am sure not everybody would do this however, I had an ugly scratched up A00A laying around that I did a mod on (besides new thermal paste etc) I took the casing from a broken retail 60gb and drilled some holes for airflow on the underside just below the fan, put the A00A hardware inside (keeping the original A00A case in tact) and it now runs around 70. I believe there are more small mods possible to improve the cooling, which I will look into at some point in time.
Yeah, my original launch US retail PS3 (still working perfectly) also gets ridiculously hot. It can (if cold in the house) heat up the small room that it's in if I leave it on running a game!! It's never overheated and I always use mine in the standing position.
The DECHA uses a COK-001. I haven't seen any pictures of the DEB-001 (DECR-1400 motherboard) online though.
Here are some pictures of the DEB-001 motherboard from a german forum: I get a DECR 1400A next week so I can take some high quality shots from the motherboard for psdevwiki.
That would be nice, we are lacking high high resolution pictures and it would further help identify the components
