I always saw my collection as a savings account, when I need the cash the items go out for I hope the same price at least, sometimes less sometimes more.. But I got to enjoy the items in between. So it's not an investment nor a real collection. If I buy item x for 100 and 1 year later when I need the cash I get 80, I am fine with that.. Had a year of fun with it for 20 bucks.
Low? whow i dont know where you live but in my country (Portugal) everything is growing in prices, a good example is in 2007 i got my NES for 50€ with 6 games and 2 controllers, now the average price is 70€ for the console and 2 controllers. same thing aplies to everything, games, consoles its getting very hard to collect arround here.
It's not but I see two on YJ for 900 and 1000 yen in what seem to be similar condition. Add in the fees and shipping and you're still a bit lower... $8-$10 maybe.
I'll tell you one thing that isn't getting any cheaper: Gamecube component cables. Those things are fucking ridiculous.
I have seen quite a lot of collectors downsizing there collection recently (At least 1 youtube video a week about it), maybe the price drops are due to the marked being flooded and demand becoming lower. On the other hand I have had my "Junk" thread on here for 3 months now, asking for things that are extremely common yet I had almost no replies to it
I have 2 junk consoles that can be fixed, but I just haven't had the tools to do so.. Not that I'm incapable of it it's just I need to order the tools had a junk 360 for a while now.. Not sure if I can let her go though Amazing that I saw a few Playstation 2 and XBOXs for around $40 on second hand stores here in Australia, not like there are many collectors here. I've only seen a few people who have various systems..
For me it's a great time to restart a Dreamcast collection. I'm picking up games by the bucket load for not a lot. Mint and sometimes sealed copies of the more sparse titles are a lot less than they used to be.
Maybe its a generational thing? its been almost 30 years since the nes, whoever was around the time it was the shit is in his forties now. If you were 15 at the time of the PSX you're in your mid thirties now. Last time I saw a concert for the beatle paul mccarney it was a geezer convention, and most original elvis fans are already dead/dying. So who knows? maybe in a couple of years PS2 games will fetch thousands from the by then 20-something kids who beated hookers in GTA when they were 7 Good times
The thing is items are only worth what people are prepared to pay, with recessions and such those figures chop and change all the time.
I used to be able to found loads of Dreamcast stuff, import and domestic, pirate and original, mostly for cheap - and now it's all hoarded somewhere... because it's nowhere to be found, and what little comes around is both common and overpriced. This is one of the things that hurts me the most.
Seems like most of the stuff I covet is still about the same price it was 4-5 years ago, i.e. special edition game boy pockets and such.
It seems retro computer 3dfx cards are doing the exact opposite, I remember looking in November for a Voodoo 2 and they ran about $70-99, , today there $99-149 Still too expensive, wish I could get one for cheap...
