I spent many hours trying to get a DECHA to play bluray. I even managed to brick it after converting to CEX and installing an early OFW build, fortunately an unofficial FSM saved me. The official FSM just gave an error message.

I believe the drives are lacking support for protected bluray/dvd movies completely. I can play a pressed region free DVD perfectly well. I assume an unprotected bluray would work too, but I haven't found one in my collection and I don't have any blanks to try burning anything. Mounting a bluray or dvd iso works great with rebug.

It's possible that the drive firmware could be hacked, or the issue worked round in software. But right now I don't think anyone with the ability is interested in spending time on it.

What would plugging it into a PC achieve? Apart from breaking the seal on the case.

Guys, won't BD-Video require the drive board to actually have BD-Video cryptographic keys programmed on it? I was on the impression that dev bluray drives were actually different than retail drives (data programmed on them) and that was what made them not enforce lock down on stuff like PS2 games (even though DECR can't play PS2 discs the drive can still read PS2 discs in the official manner, as a DRM protected PS2 disc).

You can read things like burned discs yes. PS3/2/1 BD/DVD/CD Audio/Movie
The only things we CANT do is read DVDs since it will return an incorrect region error even if region free (unless you make it yourself but there's weird issues there too. BD movies are fine however.

So everything EXCEPT DVD movies will work
