FIRST POST! Long time lurker first time poster :)

Hi guys. I've found a dump for this US version of deep fear for the saturn. I burnt it to a disk to try on my saturn but after clicking new game on the menu it just seems to go to a black screen after the loading screen.

Is it bugged or did I just screw up the burn? My other burnt disks for sonic xtreme etc work fine so I'm a little curious.

Thanks for all the help everyone.:cur_sonic:

Nope! I used alcohol 120% since that's usually the most popular from what I've read. Other little proto's I've burn worked fine so far. I'll try another burn later today and see if it works. Fingers crossed eh?

Try burn it on a better media, at the slowest speed. Alcohol is crap since forever, use imgburn instead.

See now every coaster ImgBurn has made for me has been the result of crappy media or something going wrong with the drive.

Nero on the other hand used to pump out coasters back in the 5.x days when they decided burning dreamcast selfbooting images was no longer cool.

Well I gave it a 2nd burn and it worked perfectly this time. Strange. Of all the games I burnt only that gave me an issue. Sort of...

I use alcohol 120% for all MDF rips as well as BIN/CUE.

However, when i burnt the iso + mp3 type I had issues with 120%. after converting the mp3's tp WAV files and creating the new cue for some reason the tracks would not burn correctly so instead I used IMGBURN and it works perfect.

I have now replaced my complete PAL collection (originals), with US versions (for full screen, full speed goodness) and am a very happy bunny indeed :):cur_sonic:

Nah I disagree. Many games would go out of sync and mess up either graphically or with audio/movies. Some people probably don't care but nothing annoys me more than when music skips in games or cutscenes messup etc. My biggest peeve of all gaming.

Really? You replaced all 240 games with US versions? What about the 10 games that were only released in Europe, the 21 other games that were only released in Europe and Japan, and the Photo CD Operating System? ;-)

As I said, 10 games were only released in Europe. Full speed for those games is 50Hz. Plus, there were quite a few developers in Europe and hence quite a few games were PAL optimized.

If your biggest peeve of gaming is audio messing up due to your running the console at the wrong speed, stop doing it! ;-)

Most people don't seem to realize this but older consoles tend to be picky when it comes to modern recordable media. GameCubes are/were notoriously picky about mini DVD-Rs. I've sold no less than two chipped Playstations in the last month only to have the buyer message me asking if there is some trick to get it to boot a CD-R.

I use high quality Verbatim CD-Rs after checking what dye they use. I used to pick up packs of whatever Costco had on sale as a BOGO with a coupon which ranged from Memorex to TDK to Verbatim. Every console I mod gets tested with Verbatim discs so I know the bloody things work just fine. With people getting used to buying CD-Rs at a penny a piece quality has gone down considerably.

Pretty much. The PAL only releases I had to skip. Sort of. I have the US version of Deep Fear so that's fine. Also most PAL only games aren't really anything I'm interested in to be honest.

With regards to replacing my complete collection I was a little sketchy. I've replaced only the PAL games which I actually care to play. There are many PAL titles that won't ever get a play because I have no genuine interest. An example of this are sports titles such as football games, basketball, tennis and so on. That's quite a large number of games removed from the saturn library already. Not to mention the pinball titles and other really poorly made games which didn't age well. I'm not a SHMUP fanatic either and I know that may seem crazy with the saturn being a favourite for the genre but there's so many gems on the saturn which aint shmups and thats where my love of the consoles is.

    :)

As for my peeve with audio jumping, I meant that in general. Like say you buy a game from someone on ebay, it arrives, you play it and movies/audio jumps etc. As for things going out of sync like I said, I don't have that issue because I don't run PAL games in 60hz. I use my US collection for that now ;)

I was thinking of picking up some JP titles but most games (US ones) I own now are the same as the JP ones with no difference except I can play them because they're in English. Hmm.

@ APE - Thanks for the advice mate. I tend to use any regular cdr's and had good results overall. I guess the thing I just need to do is make sure I use different programs for different file types and make sure I burn at the slowest speed possible. It seems to have worked out fine for me :)

That's sad. There are some fine games amongst them - Discworld 1 & 2, Z, Atlantis, Destruction Derby, Riven, KOF 95, Wipeout 2097, Jewels of the Oracle, Megaman X3, Dragon Ball Z..... and I'm sure more that I haven't thought of offhand!

    ^^^

What he said. There's nothign special about any of those titles for me personally. Sure one or two might be alright but it's nothing I'm going to miss. I don't care for 2d fighters, 2d shooters, crappy games like destruction derby etc. It's a shame about wipeout 2097 but again it's nothing I'm gonna miss as I get my racing kicks from fantastic SEGA Arcade ports Sega Rally Netlink and Daytona USA Netlink :D
