Defective 360 maybe it is not just the PS Alot of people tore into defective 360 owners for water cooling thier cpu's and gpu's , citing that the power supply overheating was the problem . How far this goes I dont know , but that is pretty messed up .
Its actually the foil there. It is a protective mask thats supposed to be removed before its fully assembled. Kevin this could be the cause of your issues. People who build their own PCs see this on some heatsinks as well.
Well all and well until the march update killed the firmware. Good luck getting it serviced now that they've sliced and diced it.
My brother updated his box and it restarted with the red ring of light. Scared me to death quite honesty, but after a few restarts, everything is back to normal.
No one really knows what this update does, other then "The March 2006 Xbox 360™ update will prepare your Xbox 360 console for future system and title updates. This free* update is available to all Xbox Live® members. Your console will be updated the next time you sign in to Xbox Live." They could be prepearing the system for an eyetoy add on that is in the works, and maybe a small security patch was in there as well. I must say, MS is really testing the loyalty of there users with this stunts like this.
The update didn't break anything. If anyones did break it seems coincidence, or insanely rare. Iv'e seen no other complaints on any of the large Xbox forums, and if this were some kind of shoddy system killer, you can bet we'd be hearing a lot more than this by now. It just seems the attitude now is any one random report of a 360 glitch gets turned into "Microsoft are idiots the hardware needs a recall!" This isn't true. Shiat happens sometimes, it sucks. Iv'e lost a PS2 and a PSP due to defects in the past, didn't mean more than some rotten luck. Sometimes people look for things that aren't there. For every one complaint of a shoddy 360 i'll show you 100 people w/o a single issue. It seems like the complaint ratio is high because someone with a problem is going to be upset and vocal about it. Heh, i guess I do sound like an apologist....i'm just tired of people overreacting. Just call up MS, send your box back. Yes, the wait is annoying, but for the most part MS seems to be handling the issues well. Ive even heard stores of people sending in core units and getting premiums back. The assumption shouldn't be "MS released a faulty update!" because 1 guy somehwere had a problem with it, and 445,345 didn't ...
Most of those people seem to have had problems before the update though, they just say it is 'worse' now. I wonder if those people were ignoring the issues and now have a convenient scape goat. It just seems odd when in that thread everyone replies with "OMG!@ Mint too!" and a similiar sized thread on GameFAQ's is "no problems here" x 100 http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=987&topic=26829753 *including people that have updated multiple units with the update. As stated before, this seems to be an overblown issue. Even locally my 5 friends with 360's have applied the update w/o problems. I have a friend who works the busy local EB in the mall, and another who works Best Buy and I certainly would have heard about a sudden influx of complaints or returns. This is literally the first iv'e heard. I guess the better question is: Do you personally have this problem, or know in real life anyone that does? I mean, its an update. How is an update going to kill 'Xbox A' but not 'Xbox B'? If anything, perhaps these units have an issue with writing to flash? In which case any update would have killed it, and may not be this one. I truly am sorry for those with issues, and MS should replace your units. But the vast, vast majority of users are not having any issues, that needs to be remembered.
Yes I do, mind you it is a hit or miss after the update, reboot the unit couple of times (every so often now) and it will boot up normaly. 360 has up hill battle for some people since launch, but like that for everything new. People I know, that suffered problems as ASSEMbler, as games getting chewed to hell, and now this update, Ijust dont know where MS head is at the moment.
I have updated my 2 360 with no problem. But now i have a weird problem on one but not the other. The problem is when a friend/message/achievement used to come up in the bottom center of the screen now it has moved to the far bottom right hand corner of the screen. I don't mind this but it is strange it would do it on one but not the other. G
Very easily actually. The problem does seem to be with the update, however you are right that it is not affecting everyone. The number of people who are reporting the exact same problem after having just downloading the update is too coincidental. So how can it affect one box and not another? It all depends on what combination of software is actually sitting on the Xbox. No one knows exactly what this update is doing. It is perfectly reasonable to think that this update is having a major conflict with one or more combinations of Marketplace downloads, game achievements, game saves, movies, etc. People seem to be having problems especially with EA games. Maybe a combination of game saves for those games is incompatible with the update. We don't know yet. I have two problems with this thought. First, contrary to popular belief, broadband penetration is ridiculously low in the US (I haven't heard of the Japanese Xboxes having this problem yet). You cannot assume that everyone with a 360 is able to keep it online all the time, if ever. Second, the "vast majority" of buyers for any mainstream commercial product are not technically savvy. People on this board (for the most part :icon_bigg) are technically savvy, but most people are not. Therefore, you are not going to hear complaints from them on message boards. Instead, they are just going to return their Xboxes to the store, or send them into MS for repair.
