Dell Japan for some reason has the new 300WFP 30" monitor/HDTV for 148,000 yen... even with the attrocious exchange rate, that's a good $400 cheaper than the US. Thinking of loading one up, but I've not kept up w/ Dual Link cards, which I would need to get the proper res out of it. The spec sheet says that it has HDCP DVI-D x2 inputs... are both of those required to get 2560x1600, or just one? We have some of the older Dell 30" monitors in another branch that only have one single input, and they get 2560x1600. So I'm assuming I could get full res off of two different machines, assuming I have the cards. Then, I gotta find a decent card that runs in Linux.
Yeah, you only need one cable for the full resolution; two will get you two sources. I have a 30" HP running the same resolution at work, and I must say that it is nice, though setting it up in Linux was a pain (had to manually edit the config files to add the resolution).
I have to edit all of my config files, so I'm used to that. We have a working xorg.conf file for not one, but four monitors at 2560x1600 running in harmony. So does any card that outputs Dual Link DVI support up to 2560x1600? Seems the old days where max resolution on the box (or spec sheet) is over. I'm actually looking for a low profile one that supports this high res, and it's driving me nuts. Don't want to buy something that isn't necessary.
Wish I could help you there; I'm using a high-end Quadro FX 3700. I would imagine most newer Dual-link cards with at least 512MB should support it, but you should probebly check the manufacturer's website for specs.
Some of those manufacturer's websites suck. I'll keep looking though. Probably best to just go to Akihabara and ask.
