Some guy has units he says need an unlock code each bootup. He says they will not play on psn. http://shop.ebay.com/videogamesdx/m...&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313 I highly doubt they are any kind of debugs, but I am curious if people have dumped the firmware.
They probably have older firmware. The first one even mentions the unlock codes till 3.41. Anyway, i think they have the same firmware as retail version.
They have a firmware that is different, but very similar to retail. They can be had from http://fshop01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/shop/ps3-updatelist.txt
The demo flag is probably set in eeprom. Just like a TEST unit, it will only accept it's own special type of firmware.
Considering... Considering picking one up, but, I really want to know if I can run miniS (I am a miniS dev) on them somehow.... hmm. No PSN but if the files were placed in the right place.... I suppose I'd need to figure out how to "activate" my own code / mini. /me turns brain on Hellcat if you see this let me know what you think. Regards, npt
You never heard of 'em? These are "speical" games which can be downloaded through PSN and then be played either on PS3 or PSP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_minis
For those demo units, I think you will need to modify a payload to work with them. I am not 100% sure on that but I think you do. I'm going to see if you can "update" with a Retail PUP and see if I can turn it into a retail.
Worth asking for the model numbers of demo machines as sometimes you do get Prototype and debug machines being used, although they have the demo firmware so can't be used as a complete debug machine.
Was given demo machines to use by Sony Taiwan and Sony Belgium which were indeed prototype and debug machines with a demo firmware. So yes I am not mistaken, the debug ones would run debug discs but would not allow you to mess around with the front menus.
