DESR-7000:How to use the built-in hard disk to run the game disc?

    i would suggest to use a extern hdd for iso games.. If your built-in hdd breaks down, you wont be able to startup the PSX again to the xmb (home) screen.
    use free mcboot and ulaunch. Enough how-to's on this site or youtube.

    If you really must, you can install your games to the HDD with HDLGameInstaller. The game can also be booted from the XMB.
    But beware that the HDD is old and can fail anytime. Once it fails, then a prominent part (the XMB) of the PSX would have died.

    This doesn't stop the HDD from being used though. The moment anybody boots up a PSX, the HDD unit is always powered up.
    The only real way to preserve this, is to not use the PSX.

    If you use an external hard drive, the transmission is limited to usb1.1, so PSX does not make sense?

    I think they're more saying don't use a PSX to play games. Preserve the hardware. If you want to play games, pick up a regular PS2.
