Hey: I just had a question come up, do dev kits have the same problem that the first rev xbox 360's have with the 3 red lights of death? Or no? Mines fine, but just curious if it maybe a problem. If it is, any ideas what versions (maybe) have that issue? Thanks Jeff.
I`m not the best person to answer this question but I would have to say yes they are. There has been at least one Early dev kit that i know of that has RLOD and I know some others who have sold their units or used them sparingly as to avoid what could well be the inevitable. The Beta dev kits well some of the revisions have a reversed ring of light displaying red the whole time and not green, but this isnt what you`re talking about.
Yup it can happen to basically any 360 dev kit or debug unit.My 360 dev kit was made in 05 and never had one problem, but my buddys 360 dev kit was made in the same year as mine and he got the ring of death. So yes it can happen.
Just wondering (for all 360 models) if for example your 360 is being used allot, and you have it for 1 or 2 years, and it doesnt show any problems. Does that decrease the possibility of the RLOD problem?
I would say you have a better chance, but its still possible you could get the ring of death.Remember MS did say that all of there 360 were defective. But if your 360 kit never freezes or anything of that kind than your kit should be fine.
Well like I said,if your kit does not freeze or show any kind of it slowing down than you should be ok.But if you really want you can apply the x-clamp fix to your kit,but its not necessary if your 360 is running just fine.
pikkon, If you had the RLOD could you fix it with that clamp fix? Or is it dead at that point? Another words, should I wait till it happens and try and fix it then (if ever) or try and prevent it from failing later? Mine are manf. from 2005 too Jeff.
Brian Crecente, editor at Kotaku, has posted a few times talking about the RROD on his retail and his debugs a few times, so it does happen. Edit: Fixed spelling
Yes the x-clamp fix can slove the problem, what it does is apply more pressure to the gpu and cpu.But I have seen retail 360's and one 360 dev work for a bit with the x-clamp fix then the xbox started to show the ring of death again. And no,if your 360 is working just fine than leave it alone.
