I have been trying to look into these for a while now, but to my dismay, there are hardly any resources that are publicly available without asking over here. ^_^ Anyway. Hopefully you are willing to just spend a few minutes of your time to reply here, as I would be spending a pretty great deal of money and I don't want something that isnt what I was planning on getting. 1)Supposedly I can get a Demo for around ~800. Is it common to go for less? 2) For that price, ^^^, what should I expect from it ( software and hardware based )? 3) What would I want it to come with, as in requirements? I know that the sidecarts allow DVD Emulation, and that you cant reset your Dev-Kit OS version, without a System Recovery disc. Would there be anything I might want, inc tools + software? Thanks in advance to all who help out, I seriously deeply appreciate it.
Demo for 800 is a common price, maybe slightly cheaper than some I've seen. Did you ask to see what else comes with it, I would expect nothing but the unit itself (maybe a power supply). Demo kits can use a retail power supply, as you need a dev power supply for use with sidecar units. SDK's are harder to obtain and is what you would use to develop stuff with the demo, otherwise you can run proto's and unsigned code. For the most part demo kits can do what development kits can except dvd emu and kernel debugging. I guess, what is it you want to do with the hardware? play proto games/beta games? if so, you have what you need with the unit itself.
Ok, well thanks for clearing alot of that up. I primarily want to be using it for researching and stuff, getting my head round how the 360 works myself, as I am one of those people who rather learns from manual labour. ^_^ But one thing I would like to mess with would be Halo 3. If Demo's can still run un-signed code and all, that shouldnt be a problem so Thanks alot, deeply appreciate it.
Sorry for bump ( I am assuming it is looked down upon here. ^_^ ) Do people sell the SDK or is it something that is given around? I can understand why it would be so hard to get though.
No, it's frowned upon asking for it. You can get into legal issues with Microsoft by selling or leaking the sdk. Hence the reason no one does that or even talks about it. Jeff.
Hmm. I've searched the forums, and have not come across a thread stating so... I'm sure somebody has awnsered this, but supposedly Demo's don't run unsigned code... Is this true?
Development Kits don't per-say run Unsigned code. It's just possible to run our own code on it, but we still sign it, just with dev-console keys that are known. All types of kits use the same XEX keys and therefore can run our XEX's we sign.
Oh. I knew that. >.< I just didn't think of that when I was told... Wow. Anyway, well thanks for clearing that up ^_^ Is the app that people would generally use to sign with Dev Key's public? As in, is it pretty hard to get access of and all? Also, I don't need the SDK anymore. I have access to a Live ID linked to Dev software on Microsofts site and all. Are the Demo and Dev keys different by any chance?
I'm just curious.. Why do you ask so many questions if you state your dad works for Sega and has "devkit hookups". Aren't you also the same kid that told people you could put a dev XEX on a memory card and put it on a retail and it worked? I swear that was your name on that very immature, insecure site? I mean i'm just asking for security reasons seeing as certain people shouldn't have a devkit, more specifically those irresponsible individuals from the Halo 3 Community. Just makes me wonder, I mean first you make a claim that is impossible, then you ask around for a devkit, then you state you have access to a website for Microsoft only. Just wondering... do you know what XDS is? And the last line in my post was fairly clear that all kits use the same keys.
Yeah, I have to admit I did fuck up when I said that thing about the memory card. I mi-understood what he was saying, and he showed me something completely un-related to what I actually thought he was saying. And what if I have access. I'm not one to leak things if that is what you are worried about or nothing, and this isn't a majorly private site so you would go under the assumption that it is ok to discuss things like that. And I'm sorry I asked something you had clearly awnsered. The forum doesn't say the exact time but it I'm pretty sure it was late when I posted. As in 2am+ late. Also, I don't live with my dad and only see him fortnightly. I hope you can understand that.
Just wanted to say...The only "microsoft only" sections with software are the Microsoft Connect and MSDN sites. The XDS site is entirely different, and does not use the .net Live passport system to authorize a user.
Does it not? How does it authorize then as he has full access to it and was under the assumption it would be tied with a windows live id that would of been issued to them ( as in his company ). Either way, I would assume it isn't a problem.
Add "Prototype Dev" -Looks like a 360 Mobo but with more headers and additional debug features. and the ultimate "Hardware Debug Dev" -Larger 360 Mobo (approx 2" on the front) and No cut out for the fans. -Gives easy probe access to all buses and ports. Has probe and analyzer ports/headers. -Full debug Features I'm looking for more information on early 360 prototyping. Especially, Anything on the IBM Loki, Skully and Boo. I also have a few techincal questions about the Radon. Thanks, Speedy22 xbox.360@rogers.com
