A thread in the wanted forum got me thinking. Around the time the Saturn died Babbages and EB Games started selling import games for the system. This really suprised me because it was the first time I'd ever seen a major retailer selling imports. Does anyone know if they were given permission form Sega to do this? I can't imagine them going over Sega's head and doing it. Did they directly purchase them form Sega? Anyone here work there at the time?
Sorry, yes, it was the Marvel Vs Streetfighter. I recall seing pocket fighter too... hmmm strange stuff. That's where I got a few prifuns too. Seems worth looking into. Perhaps they bought out a company that had lots of import stock.
Norimaru was in Marvel vs Street Fighter not Marvel Super Heroes. That wasn't the only game either. Supergrafx said they had Metal Slug and Radiant Silvergun. Thinking back I recall seeing Radiant Silvergun too (I always wondered why that box seemed so familar) along with Xmen vs Street Fighter and Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight. So that makes at least 5 different imports they sold. They also sold pal copies Shenmue II near the end of the Dreamcast.
My memory is extremely foggy, but I could have SWORN I had seen Shenmue II and Segagaga in a Circuit City near the end of the Dreamcast's life....
When I was the software manager of HMV Liverpool we used to stock imported Saturn and PlayStation games before the systems were released in the UK. We even sold the machines. Sony were really arsey about it but Sega just turned a blind eye. Yakumo
who is he? Actually I always wondered ever since i got marvel vs. street fighter who Norimaru was? At first looking at the character selection screen he seemed he was part of marvel, but his style is anime like and also the copyrights next to his move listls in the manual are japanese companies. So is he a tv personality or mascot in japan? I can understand why marvel didn't want him in the same game in U.S. so people would avoid confusing him with one of their own characters.
Re: who is he? I think it was more that Capcom didn't want to pay him more money when few people outside of Japan would recognize him. Just wasn't worth it.
yesi was working at eb at the time saturn was still sold bt fazeing ot. we have bunch import games for the satrn but hey were really high until we had to just dicoint them and get them out og the store. we had castlvania, meta slug, x-men vs street fighter , mega man x3 , dark stalkers: vampire savor, raident silver gun and a few others, also we had rockman sound tracks. they were all discounted to 9.99. and i bought most of them, i missed out on radient silver gun, because someone bought it at the full 59.99 price ( still kicking myself ). =belokk=
Shenmue II (DC) was also available at some Gamestop stores in the summer of 2001. I know because I paid the $59.99 for it (with free boot disk no less) there. EB did actually carry some import DC stuff early on...mostly some minor oddities like the colored Japanese controllers and that weird Godzilla memory card. Not much in the way of software though as I don't believe a boot disc was out yet in 1999. As for Saturn, yes, EB stores did in fact have jpn Saturn games in 1998...I distinctly remember this because it was around the time when they first started selling the Neo Geo Pocket as the two sections were relatively close to each other in the stores. Several stores sold them and they all seemed to have the same games. Average price was about $49.99 to $59.99 (MS1 and XMEN vs were the higher priced games as I believe the cart was included). It was odd, but more or less a necessity for those Sega fans who had no other games to look forward to while waiting for the Dreamcast to launch.
