That's right folks. Check this new retro product from Tectoy:

Mega Drive Portátil - (Portable Mega Drive)

    [IMG][IMG]

20 Games included on the internal memory (no USB or flash memory ports, so no fun)
Video Out port - Connect it on a TV
Uses 3 AAA Batteries, but it also has an AC cord.

The included games? Here's the list
    - Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
    - Alien Storm
    - Altered Beast
    - Arrow Flash
    - Columns III
    - Crack Down
    - Decapattack
    - Dr. Robotnik´s Mean Bean Machine
    - Ecco
    - Ecco Jr.
    - ESWAT: Cyber Police City Under Sieg
    - Flicky
    - Gain Graund
    - Golden Axe
    - Jewel Master
    - Kid Chameleon
    - Ristar
    - Sonic and Knuckles
    - Shadow Dancer - The Secret of Shinobi
    - The Revenge of Shinobi.

Believe it or not! No Gunstar Heroes, no Sonic, no Sonic 2, no Streets of Rage (1,2,3)...

Price? R$ 199 :eek:h:   Using today's currency, 113 US dollars! :smashed:

    Wouldn't be better to get a PSP + emulator? a GP32 or a GP2X?

Still, if someones wants one, i can help you. Sales start in December 5th.

Hows the screen quality and do games play via hw clone or emulation?

Looks nice to me. I wonder if you can hack it to add a cartridge port?

You know, that wouldn't be bad....for $30 bucks. $113 though? You can get a DS for that, or just buy a Nomad and all those games.

If it's hardware emulation, I'd say it's better than a PSP, because Megadrive emulation on the PSP still isn't perfect. It does suck that you can't add games to it, though.

Yeah, MD emulation on PSP is shit. It should be better off but nobody spends time optimising their ports. :(

Lol, they didn't even try to brush a fresher look to the good megadrive style... They just butchered a "no name"-looking system and packaging... that's silly!

I would have preferred sega to make this system instead... something great for md's 20th anniversary !

Honestly? Everybody. The economy is stabilished, the dollar currency is lowering, not to mention credit and other things that make easier to people buy stuff.

The real question is Why would anyone want this, knowing the price? You can get a PSP for 2,5x the price of it, but you pay it divided in 10x times.

Whoever choose the games is a friggin retard, and why the hell they put an old 3-button pad instead of the 6 one?

Must be a SoC array, cuz with current tech is cheaper than say an ARM9 with an emu (plus they dont have to code the emu).

I've to say, if SEGA released a portable with internal memory to which you could download games from any of thier consoles and play them, I'll buy it, and so would many other gamers:nod:

Word. It seems like the "homebrew" scene nowadays consists of people waiting for some rare genius to hack up a GCC + SDL environment for a platform, get some PC emulator source of CVS and cross-compile it.

Of course there's exceptions (Strmnrm of the PSP's N64 emulator springs to mind), but I long for the days when all you needed was an obscure cross-assembler and a list of memory addresses...

Strmnnrm, The guy who did the NeoGeo & CPS emulators and yoyofr who did the snes9x port. Thoes were the only ones who did an exceptional job.

I personaly tried to optimise NeoPop (NeoGeoPocket) to get full speed but did not get far. :S I think i should rewrite the core.

Yoyofr is a genius, the guy made all kind of PalmOS emus for the Zodiac in no time.

Too bad tapware went belly up and couldnt support the hardware. Funny becos with today prices the Zodiac could be built for less than a PSP, and it would kick some serious ass since it was way more versatile than the GP2X.

I don't think it's that bad how you painted it. The price is really a bit high, but you have to remember Brazil is the third or fourth country with higher taxes in the world, and you can't buy a psp with 1 year warranty either.
The new consoles TecToy are selling targets kids, not us :)

The Zodiac was interesting. Actualy the company I use to work for was doing a game for tapwave. Sad it got canceled (it was mostly done).

Or, if you want it in a currency that isn't going belly up - about £55. :p

    Wait, that's still ruddy expensive.

Well, any decent store gives at least 6month warranty.

Yeah, i know it's aimed to kids, but for that price, they end up getting a GBA instead.

I already seen another kind of Portable MegaDrive, from that chinese company "Players". This one have a cartridge port (not the original megadrive one, the Players model have it's own multi cartridges), so at least it gives you the chance to try other games. Just check MercadoLivre.

Tectoy was great during the Master System and Mega Drive "age". The Saturn was okay and which the Dreamcast they totally lost it.
