The American company behind social games like FarmVille and CityVille is setting up its own gaming service.

It means people will be able to play on a platform outside Facebook, Google+ and Myspace.
Zynga makes its money through advertising and from the sale of virtual items such as tools paid for with real cash.

Most of the company's games have to be played through Facebook, which takes a 30% cut from each sale.
Zynga, whose titles have more than 200 million active monthly users, makes 95% of its money through Facebook.
It publishes four of the top five games played on the social networking site.

LoL. Is there any wind left in the zynga sails? It seems to me that
zynga was already a year away from implosion and collapse.

This seems to be a sign of this.

I still can't get over that fact that people are willing to pay for virtual items/tools.

I would pay a significant price for this to happen.

    With my own limbs.

well, they just IPO'd (i.e. went public) a few months ago, and the stock price has gained more than 50% since then, which can't be said for LinkedIn or Groupon or even Nintendo, for that matter. So bankrupcy? Nah, unless we're back to 2001-style bubble economics.

Not that I wouldn't want Zynga to crash and burn, though. If only it could be so!

Zynga will never die as long they have middle-aged women to trick into playing their zillions of games - which are all exactly like Farmville with different graphics - at the office.

I laugh my ass off when someone says people playing farmville are "gamers"

Did you know the average zynga user is a 43 year old woman?

Yeah, your mom is a "gamer" now, right...

And no, sadly just like nobody stopped the holocaust, african famines and paris hilton, nobody is going to stop fucking sheep on farmville

    Fingers crossed.

But I doubt it's gonna happen any time soon. But then again, if it's not on Facebook, is anyone even gonna care?
